Transmission, Installing
For the special tools needed for the procedure. Refer to TRANSMISSION, REMOVING .
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
- Make sure the alignment sleeves -arrows- are installed in the engine flange.
- Check the intermediate plate seating between the engine and transmission. The plate must contact the engine along the entire perimeter.
- Make sure the torque converter is installed correctly. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING . It must be easy turn easily by hand and the entire circumference must be equally deep inside the transmission.
-- Carefully lift the transmission using the : VAS6931 and bring it to its installation position using the : 3282 .
-- Insert the transmission without pinching any lines.
The engine and transmission must be brought together by hand until both flanges contact each other all the way around.
If this is not the case, re-adjust the Transmission Support until the engine and transmission align.
While the transmission is guided onto the engine, carefully turn the engine further! Hold the starter ring gear steady from the outside with a screwdriver. When installing torque converter threaded pins are located in the drive plate holes.
-- Fasten the transmission to the engine and the torque converter to the drive plate. Refer to TRANSMISSION TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
-- If necessary, turn the crankshaft slightly.
Pay attention to the selector lever cable when installing.
-- Lift the engine/transmission assembly using the spindles on the : 10-222A .
-- Align the engine/transmission in its installation position. To do so, lift it just until the threads on the transmission rest all the way against the transmission mount -1-.
-- Insert and tighten the new bolts -arrows- for the transmission mount -1-.
There is a risk of damaging the threads in the transmission bracket by inserting the bolts at an angle.
- Before installing the bolts, the transmission bracket and transmission must be absolutely parallel to each other. If necessary, lift the transmission using the : VAS6931 .
-- Check the subframe mount adjustment. Adjust if necessary. Refer to ASSEMBLY MOUNT, ADJUSTING .
- Only remove the : 10-222A if all of the bolts for the assembly mount are tightened to the tightening specification.
-- Install the pendulum support. Refer to PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the drive axles. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the heat shield over the right drive axle. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the left front wheel housing liner. Refer to FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Connect the coolant hoses to the ATF cooler according the markings.
-- Attach the selector lever cable to the transmission and adjust it. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the battery tray and the battery. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Check the ATF level. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- Install the left front wheel. Refer to WHEEL BOLTS TIGHTENING SPECIFICATION .
-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Perform the basic setting. Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester and then select "Perform basic setting" under Guided Functions .
