Removing
There is a risk of fatal injury due to high voltage.
Fatal or severe bodily injury caused by electrocution or electric arcs is possible.
- Have a high-voltage technician or a high-voltage expert de-energize the high-voltage system.
-- Refer to High-Voltage System, De-Energizing .
-- Remove the rear center underbody trim panels -1-. Refer to REAR CENTER UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the rear underbody trim panels -2-. Refer to REAR UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the spring link stone chip protection -4-. Refer to SPRING LINK STONE CHIP PROTECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the left and right drive axle. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the left rear wheel housing liner. Refer to REAR WHEEL HOUSING LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Refer to Coolant, Draining .
Tip
Removal of the charger is necessary, to replace the transmission mount bolt.
-- Remove the High-Voltage Battery Charger 1 -AX4-. Refer to High-Voltage Battery Charger 1 AX4, Removing and Installing .
-- Open the hose clamp -arrow- and remove the coolant hose -1-.
-- Disconnect the connector -2-.
-- Remove the nut -arrow- and the potential equalization cable bracket -1-.
-- Unclip the coolant hose -1- -arrow-.
-- Unclip the breather line for the transmission -1- in the left rear wheel housing -arrows-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- for the cable guide for the high-voltage cable -1- on the transmission side.
-- Place the Transmission Support:3282 -D- on the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931 -E-.
-- Position the engine and gearbox jack -E- in the center underneath the motor with the transmission -2-.
-- Install the following adapters in the mounts:
A - Bolt :3282/34
B - Bolt :3282/45 with a screwed-on nut -1-
C - Hook :3282/49
-- Align the mounts -A- and -B- to the mounting points in the motor and transmission.
-- Position the mount -C- under the Electric Drive Power and Control Electronics -JX1-.
-- Slightly lift the motor with the transmission, so that the load is off the motor mount.
-- Remove the bolts -1- for the left and right side of the motor mount using the Socket - Xzn 16:T10198 , through the opening in the longitudinal member -arrow-.
-- Remove the transmission mount bolt -arrow-.
-- Lower the motor together with the transmission approximately 150 mm.
-- Remove the high-voltage cable -1- from the Electric Drive Power and Control Electronics -JX1-. For this, remove the bolts -2- and -3- above the transmission.
-- Open the locking bracket -A- on the high-voltage connector -4- and remove the high-voltage connector. Refer to High-Voltage Connectors, Disconnecting .
-- Unclip the coolant hose -1- -arrow A- above the transmission.
-- Raise the locking mechanism -2- and remove the coolant hose.
-- Unclip the breather line for the transmission -3- -arrow B- from the transmission.
Risk of damaging the lines and hoses by lowering the motor/transmission assembly.
- Make sure all connections between the motor/transmission and body have been disconnected.
- Carefully guide the motor/transmission assembly out of the engine/motor compartment when lowering.
-- Lower the motor with the transmission.
-- Seal the open connections on the motor and transmission with plugs from the Engine Bung Set:VAS 6122 .
