Left/Right MULTIFUNCTION Buttons On Steering Wheel E440 / E441, Removing And Installing: Removing

If the multifunction buttons control module is replaced, perform the test plan for replacing the control module.

-- Perform the "multifunction buttons, replacing" function using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to Diagnostic Entries .

-- Remove the airbag unit with the driver airbag igniter -N95-. Refer to AIRBAG UNIT WITH DRIVER AIRBAG IGNITER N95, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the steering wheel.

- Protect the steering wheel against damage on the necessary areas.

-- Tape off the steering wheel -1- in the area of the -arrows-.

-- Unclip the decorative trim -1- in the lower area -arrows- using a commercially available plastic wedge -2-.

-- Unclip the decorative trim -1- one after another in the areas -arrows A- to -arrows C- using a commercially available plastic wedge -2-.

-- Remove the decorative trim -1- with the multifunction buttons -3-, -4- and the lower decorative trim -5-.

-- Disconnect the connector -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -1-.

-- Free up the wiring harness -2-.

-- Remove the multifunction buttons -3- and -4-.

-- Release and remove the decorative trim -2- from the retainers -arrows A-.
