Rear Window, Removing And Installing: Removing
Removing the rear window is described using the Flush Bonded Window Kit: V.A.G 1474 B .
The Flush Bonded Window Kit: VAS 6452 or the Window Removal Set: VAS 861 001A can also be used.
Requirement
- If the Rear Window -ZX1- is to be reused, make sure the connectors for the Rear Window Defogger -Z1-, the window antennas, and the Rear Window Breakage Sensor -G304- are not damaged.
-- Disconnect the connectors for the Rear Window Defogger -Z1-, window antennas. and Rear Window Breakage Sensor -G304-.
Risk of injury to the hands and eyes from glass fragments.
Getting cut is possible.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Wear safety gloves.
Risk of damaging the component surfaces.
- Tape off the surrounding components in the visible area using commercially available adhesive tape.
-- Pull the Window Removal Set - Cutting Cord: VAS 861 001/1A -1- with the Flush Bonded Window Kit - Awl: V.A.G 1474/2 -4- on the marked positions -arrow A- through the adhesive sealant inward.
-- Secure the cutting cord end with the Bonded Window Tool Kit - Pull Handle: V.A.G 1351/1 to prevent it from being pulled out.
-- Lay the cutting cord around the rear window -2- and guide the second end of the cutting cord to the inside.
-- Secure the end of the cutting cord to the Window Reel Device: V.A.G 1654 A -3-.
-- Insert the Flush Bonded Window Kit - Plastic Trim: V.A.G 1474/15 between the rear window and the body flange.
-- Position the reel device -3- at the position shown and cut the rear window free in the upper area to both sides.
-- Move the reel device -3- and cut free the rear window at the bottom.
-- While cutting free, press the cutting wire -1- against the rear window using the Flush Bonded Window Kit - Wedge (5 pc.): V.A.G 1474/5 -2- in order to have clearance on the body flange.

- The help of a second person is necessary for the following procedure.
-- Remove the rear window using two suction lifters.
