Current Draw Test
Risk of strong corrosive battery acid.
- Keep a suitable remedy ready, for example soapy water.
Leaking battery acid.
Risk of acidic chemical burns on the human body and corrosion on the vehicle.
- Wear protective gloves, clothing and eyewear.
- The battery must not be tilted.
- Neutralize sulfuric acid as fast as possible.
Oxyhydrogen gas escaping due to loading and when resting.
Danger of explosion
- Prevent generating sparks.
- Take care to avoid short circuits.
- No open fire.
- Do not smoke.
- No naked flames.
- Discharge the static electricity, quickly touch the door striker.
- Only perform battery procedures in well-ventilated locations.
- Mind the correct side of the bleed hole.
Danger of explosion when checking, charging or jump starting the battery.
- Do not check or charge a battery when the "ALI (Acid Level Indicator)" has no color or is bright yellow. Do not give a jump start.
Battery -A- will be called battery subsequently.
- The correct loading mode must be selected at the battery charger that the current draw test is not inaccurate. Refer to Battery A, Charging .
By checking the current draw of the battery during the charging process it can be determined if the battery must be replaced or charged.
Test Prerequisites
- The battery test result must show "Perform Current Draw Test".
- When charging a battery, the battery temperature must be at least greater than or equal to +10 °C.
- The battery charger must be able to release at least 30 A charge current.
Removing
-- Refer to Battery A, Charging
Tip
Depending on the battery charger, the current draw of the battery must be measured using a current clamp or it is displayed on the device.
-- Measure the Battery A charge current after five minutes.
If the current draw is greater than 10 % of the battery capacity Ah, refer to Battery A, Charging .
If the current draw is smaller than 10 % of the battery capacity Ah, replace the battery.
-- After letting the battery rest for two hours, perform a battery test. Refer to BATTERY A, CHECKING WITH A BATTERY TESTER .
If the result after charging is: "battery faulty" or "perform current draw test" or "good - charge", replace the battery.
