The intervals shown in this table are based on vehicles operating under normal conditions. In case of severe conditions, such as extremely low temperatures, excessive dust, etc., it is necessary for certain operations to be carried out in between the given intervals. This applies particularly to engine oil changes and the cleaning or replacing of the air cleaner filter element.

Minor Maintenance

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Brake pads: Check thickness and brake disc condition. Look for contact pattern and corrosion of brake discs (front and rear)
• Engine: Change oil and replace filter
• Service interval display: Reset
• Sunroof water drains: Check for clearance and clean if necessary (Passat only)

Standard Maintenance (Includes All Minor Maintenance Items)

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Brake pads: Check thickness and brake disc condition. Look for contact pattern and corrosion of brake discs (front and rear)
• Engine: Change oil and replace filter
• Service interval display: Reset
• Sunroof water drains: Check for clearance and clean if necessary (Passat only)
• Automatic headlight control: Check (if equipped)
• Battery: Check (and second battery if applicable)
• Brake fluid: Check level
• Coolant level and frost protection: Check
• Engine and engine compartment components: Check (from above) for leaks and damage
• Engine and engine compartment components: Check (from below) for leaks and damage, check transmission, final drive, and drive
• Headlight washing system: Check (if equipped)
• Horn: Check
• Removable trailer hitch: Inspect (Tiguan, Tiguan Limited, and Atlas only if equipped)
• Test drive: Check braking, kickdown, steering, electrical, heating and ventilation systems, air conditioning, handling, and parking
• Tire pressure monitoring system: Calibrate to correct tire pressure settings
• Tire pressure: Check LF________ RF________ LR________ RR________ Spare________
• Tire repair kit: Check for damage and prior use
• Tires: Check condition and wear pattern, record tread depth
• Windshield wiper/washer system: Check
• Wiper blades: Bring into service position and check for damage

Extended Maintenance

• Ball joints, wheel bearings, drive axles, coupling rods, tie rod ends, and stabilizer bar rubber bushings: Visually inspect for damage and excessive play
• Body interior and exterior: Visually inspect for corrosion
• Brake system: Visually inspect for leaks and damage
• Convertible top: Clean and lubricate, perform leak test (Beetle Convertible only)
• Exhaust system: Inspect for leaks and damage
• Exterior lighting: Front and rear lights, headlights (adjust if necessary), turn signals, cornering lights, and hazard warning lights: Check
• Front and rear coil springs and shock absorbers: Inspect
• Hood latch: Lubricate (Does not apply to: Passat, Golf, Beetle, Jetta)
• Interior lighting: Glove box lights, cigarette lighter/power outlets, luggage compartment, and all warning lights: Check
• Ribbed belt: Check condition
• Underbody: Visually inspect underbody protection, underbody trim panels, wire routing, and plugs for damage
• Windshield: Visually inspect for damage
