Engine And Transmission, Separating: Procedure

Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Version 1 

-- Remove the connectors -1, and 3- from the mount, disconnect, and free up the wires.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- and unclip the Differential Pressure Sensor -G505- from the bracket and free it up.

Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Version 2

-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 4- and remove them from the bracket.

NOTE: Ignore items -2 and 3-.

-- Remove the bolt -3-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove nut -arrow-, and remove particulate filter with the front exhaust pipe.

NOTE: The illustration show a vehicle without a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.

-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission flange shaft, refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Loosen the clamp -arrow- and remove the coolant hose.

NOTE:

Catch any leaking ATF with a cloth.

-- Remove the screws -arrows- and then remove the ATF line -1- from the transmission.

-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set VAS 6122.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

  • Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

-- To discharge static electricity, touch the transmission housing (without wearing gloves).

-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise -arrow- and disconnect the connector from the transmission.

-- Free up the wiring harness on the transmission.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the Engine Speed Sensor -G28- and free up the wires on the transmission.

NOTE: Ignore item -1-.

All Vehicles:

NOTE: Catch any leaking ATF with a cloth.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then tie up the ATF cooler -1- to the side with the hoses -2 and 3- still connected.

-- Free up the wires.

-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission -arrow-.

-- Join the tools as shown.

  1. Socket 21 mm for 1 /2 "-drive

-- Counterhold the crankshaft to loosen the dual mass flywheel bolts.

NOTE: When mounting, turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation -arrow-.

-- Remove the six torque converter bolts -arrow- while turning the crankshaft 60° further in the direction of engine rotation.

Vehicles With Front Wheel Drive (FWD)

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the torque support -1-.

Continuation for All Vehicles 

-- If equipped, remove the connector -3- for the right engine mount.

-- Remove the bolt -2- for the right engine mount.

-- Lift the engine on the right side using the Shop Crane VAS 6100.

-- On vehicles through MY 2013: Remove the nut -1- and free up the Ground (GND) cable on the engine support.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the right engine support.

-- Remove the bolts -6- and, if equipped, remove with the GND cable.

-- Remove the bolt -1-, remove the starter from the transmission and leave it in the installation position.

-- Insert the right engine support again and tighten the bolts -arrows-.

-- Place the engine/transmission assembly on the Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B again.

-- Equip the Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B with the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10, Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7, and Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 as follows:

-- Secure the Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 to the engine on the front to the right with the M10 nut -arrow-, as shown.

-- Tighten the Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 to 20 Nm on the scissor lift table.

-- Attach the mounting elements from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 on the front of the transmission, as shown.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until the Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 rests firmly against the transmission.

-- Attach mounting element base plates to Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B and tighten to 20 Nm.

-- Remove the bolts -3 through 11- that attach the engine to the transmission.

NOTE: Ignore item -A-.

-- Loosen the clamping screws -1- on sides of Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131 B and pull the rear table top with the transmission toward rear -arrow-.
