Oil Pressure Test

1.

Disconnect and remove the Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) switch from the engine. Refer to the appropriate Engine article for the procedure.

2.

Connect the Oil Pressure Gauge to the oil pressure port.

3.

Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached.

4.

With the engine at idle record the gauge reading.

5.

Run the engine at 2, 000 rpm and record the gauge reading.

6.

The oil pressure should be within specifications; refer to the specifications in the appropriate engine article.

7.

If the pressure is not within specification, check the following sources:

Oil leakage
Insufficient oil
Plugged/damaged oil filter
Worn or damaged oil pump
Oil pump screen and pickup tube
Loose timing chain tensioner bolts
Excessive main bearing clearance
Excessive connecting rod bearing clearance
