ATF Level, Checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Oil Filler - Adapter 6: VAS6262/6
- Adapter For Oil Filling: VAS6262A
Note the following information:
- If ATF is filled, only use ATF that is available as a replacement part. Refer to the Parts Information.
- The : VAS6262/6 must also be used for some fluid containers.
- It may be necessary to shorten the bleed pipe on the : VAS6262A . Refer to the information below.
Shorten the Bleed Pipe on the : VAS6262A as Follows:
-- Shorten the pipe to dimension -a- so that the bleed pipe on the : VAS6262A will not touch the bottom on some fluid containers.
- Dimension -a- = 210 mm
Dimension -a- is measured starting from the shaft of the : VAS6262A (green surface in the magnified area).
-- Make a mark on the bleed pipe, dimension -a-, and cut it, with for example the : VAS6056/2 .
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm: VAG1331
- Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit: SMN372500
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Shop Crane - Drip Tray: VAS6208
- Oil Filler: VAS6262A
- Oil Filler - Adapter 2: VAS6262/2
- Also Oil Filler - Adapter 6: VAS6262/6 for some fluid containers
Requirements
- The vehicle is level and all hoist mounts are the same height.
- Noise insulation removed.
- The Vehicle Diagnostic Tester is connected.
- To begin working, the oil temperature should not be higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
- Test temperature: 35 to 45 °C (95 to 113 °F)
Checking
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions .
-- Select check ATF level .
Let the transmission cool down if the oil temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
The engine is idling and the selector lever is in "P".
-- Move the : VAS6208 or : SMN372500 under the transmission near the ATF check plug.
-- Remove the ATF check plug -arrow-.
-- Always replace the gasket for the drain plug -arrow-.
Even if the level of transmission fluid is too low, first a small amount of transmission fluid will flow out of the overflow tube, because it fills during operation.
ATF flows out of the overflow pipe.
-- Let the excess fluid drain.
-- Install the drain plug with a new gasket as soon as all the fluid has drained out (it starts to drip).
-- If no transmission fluid comes out, then fill.
Filling
-- Install the : VAS6262/2 hand-tight in the check hole when the engine is >>running<<.
-- Shake the fluid containers before opening.
The ATF filler tool must be clean and the ATF must not be mixed with any other ATF.
Refer to the Parts Information for the allocation.
-- Attach the : VAS6262A to the fluid bottle. Pay attention to the instructions while doing so. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .
-- Fill one liter of ATF.
-- Remove the : VAS6262A at the quick-release coupling and check it.
If ATF Flows out of the Adapter Hole:
ATF does not need to be topped off.
-- Allow the ATF to drain until it drips.
-- Install the ATF check plug with a new seal. The ATF level test is now completed.
If No ATF Drips out of the Hole:
-- Add another liter. Refer to the information above.
Too little or too much fluid will impair the transmission.
