Engine And Transmission, Separating

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure 

Fig 1: Identifying Oxygen Sensors Location, Cylinder Bank 2 (left)

-- Disconnect and remove the connectors from the bracket and free up the wires.

3 - For Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 -G108-

4 - For Oxygen Sensor 2 after Catalytic Converter -G131-

NOTE:

Ignore items -1 and 2-.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and the left catalytic converter.

-- Remove the connector for the -2- for the Transmission Mount Valve 2 -N263- from the bracket and disconnect it.

NOTE:

Ignore items -1 and 3-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -1- from the bracket for the hydraulic pipe.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the left transmission mount with the transmission support.

NOTE:

Catch any leaking ATF with a cloth.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then remove the ATF line -1- from the transmission.

-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung SetVAS6122.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

  • Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

-- To discharge static electricity, touch the transmission housing (without wearing gloves).

-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise -arrow- and disconnect the connector from the transmission.

-- Free up the wiring harness on the transmission.

-- Loosen the clamp -2- and remove the coolant hose.

NOTE:

Ignore item -1-.

-- Disconnect the connector -1- and free up the wire.

-- Loosen the clamp -3- and remove the coolant hose.

NOTE:

Ignore item -2- and -arrows-.

-- Remove the connectors from the bracket, disconnect them and then free up the wires.

1 - For Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter -G130-

2 - For Heated Oxygen Sensor -G39-

NOTE:

Ignore items -3 and 4-.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and remove the right catalytic converter.

-- Loosen the clamps -arrows-, remove the bolts -1 and 2- and then remove the right coolant pipe on the transmission from the coolant hoses.

-- Remove the connector -1- from the bracket and disconnect it.

NOTE:

Ignore item -2-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -2- and remove the transmission mount from the transmission support.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the Engine Speed Sensor -G28- and free up the wires on the transmission.

NOTE:

Ignore item -1-.

NOTE:

Catch any leaking ATF with a cloth.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then tie up the ATF cooler -1- to the side with the hoses -2 and 3- still connected.

-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission flange shaft, refer to Drive Axle .

-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission -arrow-.

-- Insert the Crankshaft SocketT40058 guide pins as follows:

-- To loosen the torque converter bolts, counterhold the crankshaft using the Crankshaft SocketT40058.

NOTE:

When mounting, turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation -arrow-.

-- Remove the six torque converter bolts -arrow- while turning the crankshaft 60° further in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Equip the Scissor Lift TableVAS6131B with the Scissor Lift Table - Audi SetVAS6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - A6 SetVAS6131/12, and Scissor Lift Table - Q7 SetVAS6131/13 as follows:

NOTE:

-- Connect the right front Joint SupportVAS6131/13-7 to the engine using the MD bolt in threaded hole as shown in the illustration.

-- Install the Joint SupportVAS6131/13-7 on the scissor lift table and tighten it to 20 Nm.

-- Attach mounting elements from Scissor Lift Table - Audi SetVAS6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - A6 SetVAS6131/12 on the left of the transmission, as shown in illustration.

-- Attach mounting elements from Scissor Lift Table - Audi SetVAS6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - A6 SetVAS6131/12 on the right side of the transmission mount as shown in illustration.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.

-- Attach mounting element base plates to Scissor Lift TableVAS6131B and tighten to 20 Nm.

-- Remove the starter bolts -1 and 2-.

-- Press the starter off the transmission and leave it in the installation position.

-- Remove the remaining bolts -3 through 11- that attach the engine to the transmission.

NOTE:

Ignore item -A-.

-- Loosen clamping bolts -1- on sides of Scissor Lift TableVAS6131A and pull rear table plate with transmission toward rear -arrow-.
