Engine, Installing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Positioning Tool : VAS6131/17
Individual components of the positioning tool:
- Dot Laser : VAS6131/17-1
- Adapter M14 x 1.5 : VAS6131/17-2
- Adapter M12 x 1.5 : VAS6131/17-3
- Adapter M10 : VAS6131/17-4
Note the following whenever working inside the engine compartment due to limited space:
- Route all lines and cables in their original locations.
- Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
When moving the engine/transmission assembly into the body, it is always necessary to bring engine carrier into contact on body using the :VAS6131 . >>Pulling up<< the engine carrier with mounting bolts damages thread inserts!
Work Procedure
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
-- For assembling the engine and transmission, follow the "Transmission, Installing" procedure. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0C8] Controls, Housing .
Aligning Scissor Lift Table
-- Install suitable adapters -A- at the left and right sides in a threaded hole on the subframe mount on the longitudinal member.
-- Install the : VAS6131/17-1 -B- in the adapter -A-.
-- Insert the bolts -C- center in the securing point on the subframe with the bolt heads facing upward.
-- Switch on the : VAS6131/17-1 and align the scissor lift table so that the laser beam strikes the bolt head on the left and right. Remove the dot laser and adapter again after aligning.
Engine, Installing
-- Raise the drivetrain up until it comes into contact with the body using the : VAS6131 . Be careful of the installed :T10300 when doing this.
-- Attach the subframe to the vehicle. Refer to Front Suspension .
-- Reconnect all lines, hoses and electrical connections that were disconnected for the removal procedure.
-- Install the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER .
-- Install the right and left wiper arms. Refer to WIPER ARMS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Fill the power steering fluid. Refer to POWER STEERING SYSTEM, BLEEDING .
-- Fill the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, FILLING .
-- If necessary, fill engine oil.
-- Connect the battery. Refer to Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting .
-- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .
-- Fill the ATF. Refer to ATF, FILLING .
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Perform a vehicle system test. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- End the vehicle system test in such a way that possibly existing Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) entries are automatically erased.
-- Create the readiness code with a road test.
Always observe all safety precautions when performing the road test.
-- Perform another vehicle system test and correct any faults.
If, during the road test, it is discovered that the steering wheel is not exactly straight when driving in a straight line, then perform an axle alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment .
