Bevel Box, Installing
Refer to "Bevel Box, Removing" to get a list of the special tools needed. Refer to BEVEL BOX, REMOVING .
Replace self-locking bolts and nuts after removing them.
Replace bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them.
Reinstall all cable ties that were loosened or cut off during removal at the same locations during installation.
Lightly grease the flange shaft splines using Grease for Clutch Plate Splines.
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
-- Before guiding together the bevel box and the transmission insert the "new" upper bolts -arrows- in the bevel box.
-- Install the bevel box with the new bolts inserted on top all the way on the top at the same time guide together the drive axle splines/bevel box with drive axle splines centered.
-- If the tooth position is correct and it is guided centered, the bevel box slides against the transmission as far as the stop.
Do not pull the bevel box with mounting bolts against the transmission, otherwise bevel box is canted and mounting eyelets will break off.
The accessibility of the upper bolts on the transmission is narrow on some engine types.
Layout of the upper bevel box bolts (-1 and 2-) on the transmission (covered by the bevel box).
- The bolt -1- is located near the bolt -A-.
- The bolt -2- is located near the bolt with the threaded connection -B-.
- The front exhaust pipe with the catalytic converter or the particulate filter -C- is located above the bolts.
-- Tighten the upper and lower bolts -arrows- for the bevel box to the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
-- Secure the bevel box transmission support to the engine and bevel box while pay attention to the tightening sequence for the bolts -1 and 2-. Refer to Bevel Box to Transmission and Transmission Support to Engine and Bevel Box .
