Selector Lever Cable, Checking And Adjusting

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Brief Description 

The selector lever cable must be removed from the transmission in order to check it for ease of movement. Lay the removed end down so that it does not touch anything.

The selector lever is then moved and then the selector lever cable is re-attached.

After that, the selector lever cable must be adjusted.

Do not grease the selector lever cable connection.

The Selector Lever Cable Must Always Be Adjusted If:

Checking 

-- Move the selector lever to >>P<<.

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA) or ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (DDSA, DDSB) .

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA) or AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (DDSA, DDSB) .

-- Loosen the bolt -2- on the selector lever cable -1-.

-- Pry the selector lever cable -1- off the selector shaft lever -3- using an open end wrench -2-, for example.

-- Press the retainers together in direction of -arrows- and remove the selector lever cable from the cable bracket.

-- Move the selector lever from >>P<< to >>S<< and back to >>P<< several times.

-- Carefully push the selector lever cable onto the selector lever and insert it into the cable bracket on the transmission.

Adjusting

-- Move the selector lever into "P" position.

-- Move the selector lever -3- on the transmission into "P" (push the lever toward the rear).

WARNING:

The parking lock must be engaged.

NOTE:

Raise the vehicle to make sure the transmission is in "P" (parking lock is engaged). The front wheels must not turn together in any direction.

-- Lightly tap the handle on the selector lever back and forth but do not move it out of "P" under any circumstances.

This places the center of the cable in its optimal position.

-- Tighten the bolt -2- to the tightening specification.

-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA) or AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (DDSA, DDSB) .

-- Install the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA) or ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (DDSA, DDSB) .

Tightening Specifications
