Diagnosis
The electromechanical steering system has self-diagnostic capability.
Lamp Function
The Electromechanical Power Steering Indicator Lamp -K161- is located in the instrument cluster. It will illuminate as yellow or red if there are faults in the electromechanical power steering system.
Yellow Warning Lamp
This lamp will illuminate:
- Every time the ignition is turned to terminal 15, the warning lamp briefly lights up in yellow, then red. Tests are performed on the system. If there are no faults in the system, the lamp will go out.
- If limit stops have not been stored and the steering angle sensor is not calibrated, this lamp will illuminate. A DTC will be set and power steering is reduced to about 60% of normal effort.
- If there is a system fault, the yellow warning lamp will illuminate continuously. Text information may also appear in the multifunction display.
With the yellow lamp illuminated, the vehicle can still be driven to the dealership with reduced power steering reduced.
Red Warning Lamp
This lamp will illuminate:
- Every time the ignition is turned to terminal 15, the warning lamp briefly lights up in yellow, then red. Tests are performed on the system. If there are no faults in the system, the lamp will go out.
- If there is a major system fault, the red warning lamp will illuminate. Information is displayed in the multifunction display. The vehicle will not have power steering.
