Symptom Chart - Climate Control Systems

Symptom Chart - Climate Control Systems

Condition Possible Sources Action
NOTE: Some PCM DTCs may inhibit A/C operation. If any PCM DTCs are retrieved, diagnose those first. Refer to the PCM DTC Chart.
No communication with the HVAC control module HVAC control module
Communication network
REFER to Module Communications Network .
Unable to duplicate the customer concern and no DTCs present Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test I .
Reduced outlet airflow Plugged cabin air filter Inspect the cabin air filter. If OK, DIAGNOSE for low refrigerant charge, A/C always commanded on or blower motor not operating correctly.
Reduced outlet airflow Improper refrigerant level CARRY OUT the refrigerant system tests. Refrigerant System Tests 
If refrigerant charge is OK, GO to Pinpoint Test Q .
Reduced outlet airflow Blower motor GO to Pinpoint Test X .
The air inlet door is inoperative Refer to Pinpoint Test For EMTC, GO to Pinpoint Test J .
For EATC, GO to Pinpoint Test K .
Incorrect/erratic direction of airflow from outlets Refer to Pinpoint Test For EMTC, GO to Pinpoint Test L .
For EATC, GO to Pinpoint Test M .
Insufficient, erratic or no heat Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test N .
Insufficient A/C cooling Improper refrigerant level
Temperature door actuator
CARRY OUT the refrigerant system tests. Refrigerant System Tests  If OK, DIAGNOSE for a temperature blend door actuator not operating correctly.
For inadequate temperature out of the EMTC, GO to Pinpoint Test R .
For inadequate temperature out of the single zone EATC, GO to Pinpoint Test S .
For inadequate temperature out of the EATC, dual zone driver side, GO to Pinpoint Test U .
For inadequate temperature out of the EATC, dual zone passenger side, GO to Pinpoint Test V .
The air conditioning (A/C) is inoperative Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test O .
The air conditioning (A/C) is always on - A/C mode always commanded ON Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test Q .
Temperature control is inoperative/does not operate correctly - EMTC Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test R .
Temperature control is inoperative/does not operate correctly - single zone EATC Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test S .
Temperature control is inoperative/does not operate correctly - dual zone driver side EATC Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test U .
Temperature control is inoperative/does not operate correctly - dual zone passenger side EATC Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test V .
The blower motor is inoperative - EMTC Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test W .
The blower motor does not operate correctly - EMTC Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test X .
The blower motor is inoperative - EATC Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test Y .
The blower motor does not operate correctly - EATC Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test Z .
The auxiliary blower motor is inoperative Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test AA .
The auxiliary blower motor does not operate correctly Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test AB .
The auxiliary temperature control is inoperative/does not operate correctly using the front/rear auxiliary climate controls Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test AC .
The auxiliary panel/floor control is inoperative/does not operate correctly using the front/rear auxiliary climate controls Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test AD .
The auxiliary temperature, panel/floor and blower motor controls are inoperative/do not operate correctly using the rear auxiliary climate controls Refer to Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test AE .
A/C pressure relief valve discharging High system pressure
A/C pressure relief valve
CHECK the high side system pressure. If the pressure is below the A/C pressure relief valve open pressure, REPLACE the A/C pressure relief valve. If the system pressure is above the A/C pressure relief valve open pressure, REPAIR the system for a restriction.
Climate control does not operate only when remote start is used IPC information display settings
Non-Ford approved remote start system installed
VERIFY Remote Start - Message Center Set To Auto, or Remote Start - Message Center Set To Last User Settings. REFER to: Climate Control System - Vehicles With: Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) - System Operation and Component Description  or EMTC REFER to: Climate Control System - Vehicles With: Electronic Manual Temperature Control (EMTC) - System Operation and Component Description 
VERIFY module communications network operation. DIAGNOSE Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) if present.
