Exterior Lighting: Overview

Headlamps 

The headlamp system consists of:

Expedition 

The halogen headlamp system is a quad-beam pattern system. It consists of replaceable low and high beam bulbs in each headlamp assembly. The park, turn and side marker lamps are integrated into the headlamp assembly. The park/turn lamp bulb is individually replaceable. The side marker lamps are LEDs and are not individually replaceable.

Navigator 

The HID headlamp system is a quad-beam system. It consists of a single replaceable headlamp bulb in each headlamp assembly and an electronic shutter to change the beam pattern. The park, turn and side marker lamps are LEDs, integrated into the headlamp assembly, and are not individually replaceable.

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) 

The Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) system consists of:

For the Expedition, the DRL system operates the low beam headlamps at a reduced intensity.

For the Navigator, the DRL system operates the Signature LEDs and the daytime running lamp assemblies at full intensity.

Autolamps 

The autolamp system consists of:

The autolamp system provides light sensitive automatic on/off control of the exterior lamps. The autolamp system keeps the exterior lamps on for a preselected period of time after the ignition is turned OFF (20 seconds is the factory default setting). The preselected time is adjustable up to approximately 3 minutes by using the message center controls.

Stoplamps 

The stoplamp system consists of:

The stoplamp switch is located on the brake pedal assembly. Voltage is supplied to the rear lamps and high mounted stoplamp when the brake pedal is applied.

Turn Signal and Hazard Lamps 

The turn lamp system consists of:

When the LH steering column multifunction switch is placed in the LH TURN or RH TURN position, the corresponding turn lamps flash on and off.

The hazard flasher lamp switch is located in the center instrument panel finish panel (integrated into the FCIM on vehicles equipped with SYNC ®). When the hazard function is active, all the turn lamps flash on and off.

The front turn signal indicator lamps are integrated into the headlamp assemblies.

The rear turn signal indicator lamps operate independently of the stoplamps (Navigator only).

Parking, Rear and License Plate Lamps 

The parking lamp system consists of:

The front parking and side marker lamps are integrated into the headlamp assemblies.

Front parking lamps function is integrated into the daytime running lamp assemblies (Navigator only)

The rear parking and side marker lamps are LEDs integrated into the rear lamp assemblies and are not individually replaceable (Navigator only).

Fog Lamps, Expedition Only 

The fog lamp system consists of:

The fog lamps can be turned on when the ignition is in RUN or ACCESSORY, the parking lamps are ON, and the high beams are OFF.

The fog lamp switch is integrated into the headlamp switch.

Reversing Lamps 

The reverse lamp system consists of:

When the transmission is placed in REVERSE, the reversing lamps are illuminated. The reversing lamps are located within the rear lamp assemblies.

The reversing lamps are LEDs integrated into the rear lamp assemblies and are not individually replaceable (Navigator only).

Trailer Lamps 

The trailer tow system consists of the following components:

The trailer stop/trun lamps and trailer battery charge are supplied power by the Trailer Module (TRM).

The trailer parking and reversing lamps are supplied power by BJB relays that are energized to correspond with the exterior lighting functions of the vehicle.
