Engine And Transmission, Separating
Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required
- Crankshaft Socket T40058
- Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10, Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 and Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14
Procedure
- Engine/transmission assembly removed and placed on the Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B.
-- Remove the connector -3- for the Oxygen Sensor 2 after Catalytic Converter -G131- from the bracket and disconnect it.
Ignore items -1 and 2-.
-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and the bolt -1- and the left catalytic converter.
There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.
- Always "discharge" the static electricity. Do this by touching a grounded object, for example vehicle ground, the vehicle or the hoist.
- Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.
-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise -arrow- and disconnect the connector from the transmission.
-- Free up the wiring harness on the transmission.
-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the Engine Speed Sensor -G28- and free up the wires on the transmission.
Ignore item -1-.
-- Loosen the clamp -2- and remove the coolant hose from the lower left coolant pipe.
Ignore item -1-.
Catch any leaking ATF with a cloth.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then remove the ATF line -1- from the transmission.
-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set VAS 6122.
-- Remove the electrical connector -1- from the Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter -G130- from the bracket and disconnect it.
Ignore items -2 and 3-.
-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and the bolt -1- and remove the right catalytic converter.
-- Loosen the hose clamps -arrows- to remove the bolts -1 and 2- and to remove the coolant hoses for the right coolant pipe from the transmission.
-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission flange shaft, refer to Drive Axle .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then tie up the ATF cooler -1- to the side with the hoses -2 and 3- still connected.
-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission -arrow-.
-- Insert the Crankshaft Socket T40058 guide pins as follows:
- The large diameter -arrow 1- faces the engine.
- The small diameter -arrow 2- faces the adapter.
-- Counterhold the crankshaft and loosen the torque converter bolts using a Crankshaft Socket T40058 and a closed wrench.
When mounting, turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation -arrow-.
-- Remove the six torque converter bolts -arrow- while turning the crankshaft 60° further in the direction of engine rotation.
-- Equip the Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B with the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10, Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7, and Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 as follows:
