Engine And Transmission, Separating

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required 

Procedure 

-- Remove the connector -3- for the Oxygen Sensor 2 after Catalytic Converter -G131- from the bracket and disconnect it.

NOTE:

Ignore items -1 and 2-.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and the bolt -1- and the left catalytic converter.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

  • Always "discharge" the static electricity. Do this by touching a grounded object, for example vehicle ground, the vehicle or the hoist.
  • Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise -arrow- and disconnect the connector from the transmission.

-- Free up the wiring harness on the transmission.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the Engine Speed Sensor -G28- and free up the wires on the transmission.

NOTE:

Ignore item -1-.

-- Loosen the clamp -2- and remove the coolant hose from the lower left coolant pipe.

NOTE:

Ignore item -1-.

NOTE:

Catch any leaking ATF with a cloth.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then remove the ATF line -1- from the transmission.

-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set VAS 6122.

-- Remove the electrical connector -1- from the Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter -G130- from the bracket and disconnect it.

NOTE:

Ignore items -2 and 3-.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and the bolt -1- and remove the right catalytic converter.

-- Loosen the hose clamps -arrows- to remove the bolts -1 and 2- and to remove the coolant hoses for the right coolant pipe from the transmission.

-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission flange shaft, refer to Drive Axle .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then tie up the ATF cooler -1- to the side with the hoses -2 and 3- still connected.

-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission -arrow-.

-- Insert the Crankshaft Socket T40058 guide pins as follows:

-- Counterhold the crankshaft and loosen the torque converter bolts using a Crankshaft Socket T40058 and a closed wrench.

NOTE:

When mounting, turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation -arrow-.

-- Remove the six torque converter bolts -arrow- while turning the crankshaft 60° further in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Equip the Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B with the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10, Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7, and Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 as follows:

NOTE:

The other attachments remain unchanged.

-- Secure the Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 to the engine in threaded hole on the front to the right, as shown in the illustration.

-- Tighten the Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 to 20 Nm on the scissor lift table.

-- Attach the mounting elements from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 on the front of the transmission, as shown in illustration.

-- Rotate the left and right spindles up until the Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 rests firmly against the transmission.

-- Attach mounting element base plates to Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B and tighten to 20 Nm.

-- Remove the starter bolts -1 and 2-.

-- Press the starter off the transmission and leave it in the installation position.

-- Remove the remaining bolts -3 through 11- that attach the engine to the transmission.

NOTE:

Ignore item -A-.

-- Loosen clamping bolts -1- on sides of Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B and pull rear table plate with transmission toward rear -arrow-.
