Power Steering Gear, Removing And Installing, RHD: Installing

Install in reverse order of removal while noting the following:

-- Bleed steering system. Refer to POWER STEERING SYSTEM, BLEEDING .

-- Check the steering system for leaks. Refer to STEERING SYSTEM, CHECKING FOR LEAKS .

-- Check the hydraulic fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to POWER STEERING, CHECKING FLUID LEVEL .

-- Install wheels and tighten. Refer to WHEEL BOLT TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

-- After installation, a vehicle alignment must be performed. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT .

-- Perform basic setting for Steering Angle Sensor -G85-.

Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Follow the instructions on the screen to perform the basic setting.

Tightening Specification 

Component Tightening specification
Pressure-/return line to steering gear 32 Nm
Clamps to steering gear 9 Nm
Universal joint to steering gear
  • Use new bolt.
20 Nm + 90°
Heat shield to steering gear 9 Nm
Tie rod to steering knuckle
  • Use new nut.
90 Nm
Steering gear to subframe
  • Always use new nuts and bolts.
90 Nm + 90°
Front final drive to subframe
  • Always use new nuts and bolts.
90 Nm + 90°
Subframe to body
  • Use new bolts.
120 Nm +180°
