Engine Control Module -J623-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, WITH PROTECTIVE HOUSING: Removing
-- Switch on the ignition and select the following menu items on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester:
- 01 - Motor electronics
- Guided Functions
- 01 - Replacing the Engine Control Module
-- Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key.
-- Disconnect the battery before taking the engine control module out of its holder. Refer to Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting .
Remove the shear bolts -arrows- as follows to remove the protective housing -1- :
-- Make a slot for a screwdriver in the shear bolt head -1- using a mini-grinder -2-.
The shear bolt threads are coated with locking fluid. Therefore the bolts must be heated up with the hot air blower to remove them.
Hot Air Blower 4 Settings
-- Set the temperature setting potentiometer -2- to the maximum heating output.
-- Set the two stage switch for airflow -3- to position 3.
- Cover surrounding components, if necessary.
-- Warm up the shear bolt head -1- for approximately 20 to 30 seconds.
-- Remove the shear bolt -1- using the screwdriver -2-.
-- Remove the protective housing from the Engine Control Module -J623-.
-- Release the Engine Control Module -J623- in the direction of the -arrow A-.
-- Pivot out the Engine Control Module -J623- in the direction of the -arrow B- and remove it from the bracket.
-- Release and remove the connectors for the Engine Control Module -J623-.
