Fuel System Safety Precautions

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Audi A8 Quattro and 2015 Audi A8 Quattro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Note the Following when Working on the Fuel System:

WARNING:

There is a risk of injury because the fuel is under pressure.

  • Place clean rags around the connection before opening the system. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
  • Wear safety gloves
  • Wear protective eyewear.

There is a risk of burns due to hot fuel.

  • The temperature of the fuel lines and may reach 100 °C (212 °F) after stopping the engine. Let the fuel cool down before opening any line connections otherwise there is a danger of scalding.
  • Wear safety gloves
  • Wear protective eyewear.

Fuel coming into contact with skin poses a health risk.

  • Do not let fuel come in contact with bare skin. Wear fuel-resistant gloves.

Danger due to leaking fuel

  • Because the Transfer Fuel Pump -G6- runs briefly when the battery is connected and the driver's door is opened, the voltage supply to the Transfer Fuel Pump -G6- must be disconnected before opening the fuel system.
  • Disconnect the power supply by removing  the fuse for the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538- /fuel delivery unit. Refer to Wiring Diagram or disconnect the battery.
CAUTION:

Follow the points below to avoid running the high pressure pump dry (very low tolerances) and to start the engine quickly after replacing the components:

  • If fuel system components between the fuel tank and high pressure fuel pump are removed or replaced, then the fuel system must be filled/bleed before the first engine start. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM, FILLING/BLEEDING .

To Prevent Personal Injury and Damage to the Injection and Pre-Glow System, Observe the Following:

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging electronic components when disconnecting the battery.
