Repowering Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Lincoln Navigator and 2017 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Vehicles With Ignition Switch 

  1. 1.

    Turn the ignition switch from OFF to ON.

  1. 2.

    Install RCM fuse 41 (7.5A) to the BCM and close the cover.

  1. 3.

    WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any airbag when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

    Connect the battery ground cable.

  1. 4.

    Prove out the SRS as follows:Turn the ignition from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the back to ON and visually monitor the airbag warning indicator with the airbag modules installed. The airbag warning indicator will illuminate continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turn off. If an SRS fault is present, the airbag warning indicator will:- fail to light.- remain lit continuously.- flash.The flashing might not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition has been turned from the OFF to the ON position. This is the time required for the RCM to complete the testing of the SRS. If the airbag warning indicator is inoperative and a SRS fault exists, a chime sounds in a pattern of 5 sets of 5 beeps. If this occurs, the airbag warning indicator and any SRS fault discovered must be diagnosed and repaired. Clear all continuous DTCs from the RCM using a scan tool.

Vehicles With Push-Button Start System 

  1. 5.

    Install RCM fuse 41 (7.5A) to the BCM and install the cover.

    Remove BJB relay 9 (run/start relay).

  1. 7.

    Install a 40A fused jumper wire in BJB relay 9 (run/start relay) cavities 3 and 5, as shown.

  1. 8.

    WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any airbag when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

    Connect the battery ground cable.

  1. 9.

    Wait at least 30 seconds, then remove the fused jumper wire from the BJB.

  1. 10.

    Install BJB relay 9 (run/start relay) and cover.

  1. 11.

    Prove out the SRS as follows:Turn the ignition from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the back to ON and visually monitor the airbag warning indicator with the airbags installed. The airbag warning indicator illuminates continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turns off. If an SRS fault is present, the airbag warning indicator:- fails to light.- remains lit continuously.- flashes.     Clear all CMDTCs from the RCM.
