Control Position, Programming
General Information
Vehicles with level control and/or HID headlamps have standard automatic headlamp range control. Refer to Headlamp, Adjusting .
To function properly, the level control and automatic headlamp range control system need information about compression travel or rebound travel at the front and rear axles.
For this, the position of the left/right lower transverse link in relation to the body is transferred via a coupling rod to the Left Rear Level Control System Sensor -G76- and Right Rear Level Control System Sensor -G77-. These transmit electrical signals to the Level Control System Control Module -J197- -item ) OVERVIEW - ELECTRONIC DAMPING - List Item:Level Control System Control Module -J197-.
The signals from the Left Front Level Control System Sensor -G78- and the Right Front Level Control Sensor -G289- are transmitted to the Level Control System Control Module -J197- -item ) OVERVIEW - ELECTRONIC DAMPING - List Item:Level Control System Control Module -J197- at the rear axle.
These signals are required for determining vehicle level.
The system reacts on its own to the changes in the vehicle level and evens it out.
The vehicle level can change in the following situations:
- Trailer Mode
- Different load conditions; vehicle empty, vehicle partially or fully loaded
Adapting control position and checking headlamp basic setting is necessary if
- the lower transverse link has been removed and reinstalled or replaced
- the subframe was replaced,
- Installation work has been performed on the level control system sensor,
- the level control system sensor has been replaced,
- The level control system sensor coupling rod threaded connection was loosened at the lower transverse link.
- The Level Control System Control Module -J197- was replaced.
Requirements
- The vehicle must be standing on an even surface.
- The vehicle may not be loaded.
Procedure
-- Turn on the ignition.
VASPC
-- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester Connect.
-- Select "Guided Functions" mode.
-- Press the Go to button and select the "Function/component selection" and the following tree structures one after the other:
- Chassis
- Suspension
- 01 - On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems
- 34 - Level control system functions
- 34 - J197 43 Readapting control position
ODIS - Offboard Diagnostic Information System
-- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester Connect.
-- Select Diagnostic operating mode and start diagnostics.
-- Select the Test plan tab
-- Select the button Individual tests and select the following tree structures one after the other:
- Chassis
- Suspension
- 01 - On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems
- 34 - Level control system functions
- 34 - J197 43 Readapting control position
Continuation for All Vehicle Diagnostic Testers
-- Continue to follow the instructions in the vehicle diagnostic tester display.
If the control position was reprogrammed and if the vehicle has lane assist, then it will then be necessary to calibrate the Camera Control Module -J852-. Refer to DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS FRONT CAMERA, CALIBRATING .
Basic setting of the headlamps. Refer to Headlamp, Adjusting .
