General Installation Information: Notes
This procedure contains mandatory replaceable parts. Refer to component overview prior to starting procedure.
Mandatory Replacement Parts
- Bolts - Engine to Transmission
- O-rings- ATF Pipes
- Bolts - Torque Converter
- Bolts - Transmission Support
When guiding the engine/transmission assembly into the body, bring the subframe into contact with the body using the scissor lift table. "Pulling" the subframe up by the bolts can damage the threaded inserts.
-- Reconnect all lines, hoses and electrical connections that were disconnected for the removal procedure.
Install in reverse order of removal while noting the following:
Tightening specifications. Refer to GENERAL INSTALLATION INFORMATION .
-- Make sure the alignment bushings for centering the engine/transmission are installed inside the cylinder block. Install them if necessary.
Centering Bushing for Torque Converter
-- Check the installed dimension of the torque converter. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER AND CONVERTER, INSTALLING [For transmission(s) 0C8] .
-- If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, make sure the crankshaft has a centering bushing -arrow- installed in the back. Install the centering bushing if necessary.
-- Before guiding engine and transmission together, rotate torque converter and drive plate so that holes or threaded holes are same height as opening on removed starter -arrows-.
Risk of destroying transmission due to torque converter inserted incorrectly.
- Keep checking whether the torque converter behind the drive plate can be turned before and during tightening of the bolts at engine/transmission connection.
- If torque converter cannot be rotated, the ATF pump coupling plate and therefore the transmission are destroyed when connections are tightened to final torque.
-- To secure torque converter to drive plate, use new original ribbed bolts. Refer to the Parts Information.
-- Bolt transmission to engine.
-- Raise the engine/transmission sub-assembly with the scissor lift table just enough until dimension -a- between the subframe and the body is reached.
- -a- = minimum 250 mm
-- Install the selector lever cable and check the adjustment. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM [For transmission(s) 0C8] .
-- Continue raising the engine/transmission assembly with the subframe using the scissor lift table.
-- When removing, align the subframe, engine support and transmission carrier using locating pins, or align the marks you made on longitudinal supports.
-- Replace the locating pins one after the other with new subframe bolts and tighten to the tightening specification. Refer to SUBFRAME .
-- Set and tighten the new engine support bolts. Tightening specification. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME .
-- Set and tighten the new transmission support bolts. Tightening specification. Refer to appropriate service information. .
Risk of accident due to loose connections.
- If the bolts in the subframe are not tightened to final torque, vehicle must not be driven.
-- Check the ATF level and fill if necessary. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING AND FILLING [For transmission(s) 0C8] .
-- Electrical Connections and Wiring Routing. Refer to appropriate service information. .
-- Connect the A/C lines. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .
-- Fill the power steering fluid and bleed the steering system. Refer to STEERING SYSTEM, BLEEDING AND CHECKING FOR LEAKS .
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .
-- Fill with coolant. Refer to COOLANT, FILLING .
Follow all safety precautions during the road test. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
-- Perform a road test and then check all the DTC memories. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
