Engine Oil, Capacities And Specifications

From now on, a new Volkswagen engine oil standard 508 00/509 00 is used in the engines. It is characterized by the ability to lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emission. The most important facts are listed here.

• VW 508 00/509 00 is a combined product where the gasoline specification is given with the 508 00 and the diesel specification with the 509 00.
• It may not be added to older engine generations. The engines that may use this new Volkswagen engine oil standard are listed in this chapter.
• Engines, that are filled with the new oil at the factory, may also be filled with the conventional oil specifications during servicing. The new oil is therefore mixable. This can lead to higher fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.
• From MY 2018, engines that may not use the new oil have an information label (lock carrier/engine compartment) which indicates the oil specification to be used.
• The new oil is not used in some markets. The allocation of which markets are not allowed to use the new oil, can be taken from the table. Refer to or PASSAT (A33) .
• If the oil with the Volkswagen engine oil standard 508 00/509 00 is used in engines that are not designed for it, this can lead to engine damage.
