Overview - Transmission Housing And Selector Mechanism

- Tightening specification OVERVIEW - DIFFERENTIAL, FRONT WHEEL DRIVE or OVERVIEW - DIFFERENTIAL, AWD AND FWD WITH FRONT AXLE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK
- Left Flange Shaft
- With pressure spring and tapered ring
- Removing and installing. Refer to LEFT SEAL, REPLACING .
- FWD, assembling. Refer to OVERVIEW - DIFFERENTIAL, FRONT WHEEL DRIVE .
- AWD, assembling. Refer to OVERVIEW - DIFFERENTIAL, AWD AND FWD WITH FRONT AXLE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK .
- Circlip
- For the metal cover
- Not used in plastic covers
- Cap
- Replace after removing
- Made of metal or plastic. Refer to The locking ring has been discontinued together with the plastic cover for the input shaft.
- Secured with metal locking ring
- Without plastic locking ring
- Allocate the components using the parts information.
- Circlip
- For the grooved ball bearing/input shaft. Refer to OVERVIEW - INPUT SHAFT .
- Selecting a new thickness. Refer to Figure
- Back-Up Lamp Switch -F4-
- 20 Nm
- Switch without gasket: Clean the threads of the switch if necessary
- Switch without gasket: Install the switch with sealant if necessary
- Refer to the parts information for the correct sealant.
- Switch with permanent gasket: Replace the switch
- Switch with separate gasket: Replace the gasket
- Coat the tab lightly with MoS 2 grease.
- Seal
- If equipped, replace after removing
- Not installed on all transmissions
- Oil Drain Plug
- Tightening specification. Refer to Figure.

- On transmissions without an oil filler plug, fill the transmission fluid via the threaded hole for the locking screw. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID .

- 15 Nm and turn an additional 180°

- Gearshift Unit
- (Gearshift shaft with gearshift cover). Refer to OVERVIEW - SHIFT UNIT .
- Removing and installing with the transmission installed:
- Vehicles with a turbo diesel engine, remove the entire air filter housing. Refer to the appropriate service information. .
- If the vehicle has a gasoline engine, remove the entire air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove the battery and the battery tray if necessary. Refer to BATTERY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- The locking elbow -Item 6- for adjusting the shift mechanism must not be engaged
- Remove the cables and gearshift lever. Refer to OVERVIEW - OPERATING CABLES, SCIROCCO, CC, GOLF CABRIOLET, PASSAT .
- Remove the locking screw.
- If equipped, remove the Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701-.
- Remove bolts and shift unit
- Install in reverse order of removal. Replace the O-ring and bolts.
