Component Location Overview - Transmission Control

Electrical and Electronic Components and Component Locations

  1. Transmission Control Module -J217-
    • Component location. Refer to Fig 2.
    • Can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding"  using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
  2. Diagnostic Connection
    • Component location: the diagnostic connection is located under the driver side storage compartment on the left
  3. Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
    • Component location: is integrated permanently in the selector mechanism and cannot be replaced separately
    • Can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding"  using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
  4. Multifunction Transmission Range Switch -F125-
  5. Valve Body
    • Component location. Refer to Fig 4.
    • The components can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding"  using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
  6. Sensor Wiring Harness
  7. Solenoid Valve Wiring Harness
  8. Selector Mechanism Cover with Selector Lever Scale Illumination Bulb -L101-
  9. Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module -J587- with Selector Lever -E313-, Tiptronic Switch -F189- and Selector Lever Park Position Lock Switch -F319-
    • Component location: The components are permanently integrated in the selector mechanism circuit board and cannot be replaced separately.
    • The components can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding"  using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
    • The selector mechanism must be replaced if a component is faulty. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
  10. Transmission Input Speed Sensor -G182-
  11. Transmission Output Speed Sensor -G195-
  12. Transmission Range Display -Y6-
  13. Kick Down Switch -F8-
    • Not a separate component, the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor -G79- and Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2 -G185- assume the function, both are integrated in the accelerator pedal module; for the component location, refer to Fig 9.
    • Can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding"  using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
  14. Brake Lamp Switch -F-
    • Component location. Refer to Fig 10.
    • Can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding"  using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Transmission Control Module J217

Component location: The control module -A- is located in the engine compartment at the front left near the battery.

-- Unclip the Control Module -A- from the bracket and remove it upward.

-- Release the connector and remove it from the Control Module.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Multifunction Transmission Range Switch F125

Component location: The multifunction transmission range switch is located on the top side of the transmission.

Valve Body

Component location: the valve body is bolted onto the bottom of the transmission housing and is covered by the transmission fluid pan.

The Solenoid Valve 1 -N88-, Solenoid Valve 2 -N89-, Solenoid Valve 3 -N90-, Solenoid Valve 4 -N91-, Solenoid Valve 5 -N92-, Solenoid Valve 6 -N93-, Solenoid Valve 9 -N282- and Solenoid Valve 10 -N283- are secured on the valve body.

Sensor Wiring Harness

Component location: the wiring harness is secured to the valve body in the transmission.

Solenoid Valve Wiring Harness

Component location: the wiring harness is secured to the valve body in the transmission.

Transmission Input Speed Sensor -G182- and Transmission Output Speed Sensor -G195-

Component location: the sensors are installed above the valve body in the transmission housing.

1 -  Transmission Input Speed Sensor -G182-

2 -  Transmission Output Speed Sensor -G195-

Component location: inside the instrument cluster -1-.

A programmed value of the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor -G79- /Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2 -G185- (integrated in accelerator pedal module) is stored in the engine control module as a kick-down signal.

Accelerator Pedal Module, Removing  and Installing  . For [CBTA, CBUA, CCTA, CBFA, CPLA, CPPA, CPRA, CPKA] codes, Refer to OVERVIEW - ACCELERATOR PEDAL MODULE . .

Brake Lamp Switch -F-

Component location: The Brake Lamp Switch -A- is located on the brake master cylinder.

Brake Lamp Switch, Removing  and Installing  . Refer to BRAKE LAMP SWITCH, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
