Windshield, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the A-pillar upper left and right trim. Refer to A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the left and right sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the interior rearview mirror. Refer to INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If equipped, remove the rain/light recognition sensor. Refer to RAIN/LIGHT RECOGNITION SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Sedan Only
-- Lower the headliner near the windshield. Refer to HEADLINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Convertible Only
-- Remove the lower roof frame trim panel. Refer to Roof Trim Panels .
-- Disconnect the wire from the impedance converter. Refer to ANTENNA MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the GPS antenna, if equipped. Refer to GPS ANTENNA, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Continuation for All Vehicles
-- Slide a suitable cover for dash panel between the windshield and instrument panel.
Always wear protective goggles and leather gloves when removing the windshield.
-- Carefully pierce the : VAG1474/2 -2- through the adhesive bead from the inside to the outside in the area shown.
-- Protect the body flange with tape -1- on the around the awl -2-.
-- Thread the cutting wire -3- in the awl -2- and pull it through the adhesive in the vehicle interior.
-- Lay the cutting wire all around under the windshield in the window glass flange as shown.
-- Make sure that the cutting wire is inserted under windshield at the corners.
The ends of the wire must not be twisted when cutting through the adhesive -arrow-.
-- Tighten the wire ends on the : VAG1654A and the : VAG1351/1 .
-- Set : VAG1654A into "Position I".
-- Move : VAG1654A according to position required and cut the windshield free.
-- While cutting free, press cutting cord against window using plastic wedge in order to have clearance from window flange and instrument cluster.
-- Remove window from window opening.
