Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Ford Expedition and 2016 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
If installing a new Air Conditioning(A/C) compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, the following procedures must be carried out to remove contamination from the A/C system. Failure to remove contamination from the A/C system, if present, will result in poor A/C performance and/or damage to the new A/C compressor and other components.
-
Carry out the A/C flushing procedure after a new A/C compressor has been installed. Refer to the A/C System Flushing general procedure in Climate Control System General Information and Diagnostics
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE:
Installation of a new receiver/drier cartridge is not required when repairing the A/C system except when there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the receiver/drier cartridge.
- 1.
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to Jacking and Lifting .
- 2.
Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Climate Control System General Information and Diagnostics .
- 3.
Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley. Refer to Accessory Drive .
- 4.NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.
Position aside turbocharger inlet tube. Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger inlet tube to air cleaner outlet pipe.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- 6.NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.
Loosen the ACL outlet pipe clamp and remove the Air Cleaner(ACL) outlet pipe.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- 7.NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.
Remove the A/C compressor fitting nuts and position the A/C compressor lines aside.
- Discard the O-ring seals and gasket seals.
- Tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
- 8.
Detach the wire harness retainer from the A/C compressor, disconnect the clutch field coil electrical connector and position the wire harness aside.
