A/C Compressor, Removing And Installing: Removing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Audi e-tron Quattro and 2019 Audi e-tron Quattro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

For all procedures on vehicles with a high-voltage system, pay attention to the additional warnings for these vehicles. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

Working near high-voltage system components is necessary for the following procedure. "Perform a visual inspection for damage to the high-voltage components and lines". Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

Working on a high-voltage system when activated or with the ignition turned on:

-- Switch off (deactivate) the "parking air conditioner". Refer to Owner's Manual.

-- Switch the ignition on.

-- Initiate the A/C system basic setting through the Thermal Management Control Module -J1024- and open the power-activated valves through the stored routine "Extract, evacuate and fill the refrigerant circuit" using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding"  function.

-- Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to Refrigerant Circuit or Working with A/C Service Station (1 Of 2) / Working with A/C Service Station (2 Of 2) .

CAUTION:

High voltage is extremely dangerous.

Severe bodily injury or death by electrocution or arcing is possible.

- Have an Audi high-voltage technician or an Audi high-voltage expert de-energize the high-voltage system.

-- De-energize the high-voltage system. Refer to the appropriate service information .

-- Remove the bolts -2-.

-- Release the retainers -arrows- and remove the air duct -1- downward.

-- Remove the bolts -A, B and C- from the bracket.

-- Disconnect the connector for the A/C Pressure/Temperature Sensor -G395- -C- and mark it.

-- Release and disconnect the connector -D- on the high-voltage cable. Refer to the appropriate service information .

-- Pivot the A/C compressor slightly forward.

TIP:

For clarity the A/C compressor is shown freed up from the left rear.

-- Disconnect the connector -C-.

-- Disconnect the connector for the A/C Pressure/Temperature Sensor 2 -G826- -B- and mark it.

CAUTION:

Danger or frostbite due to refrigerant coming out under pressure.

Frostbite on the skin and other parts of the body is possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Evacuate or drain refrigerant and open the refrigerant circuit immediately.

- If more than 10 minutes elapse after extracting or draining the refrigerant and the refrigerant circuit was not opened, extract or drain the refrigerant again. Pressure develops in the refrigerant circuit due to evaporation.

-- Remove the bolts -E and G- and refrigerant lines -A and F-.

-- Pivot the A/C compressor further forward and remove the bolt -I- from the potential equalization cable.

-- Remove the A/C compressor with the bracket downward.
