Engine And Transmission, Separating

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure 

Fig 1: Identifying Heated Oxygen Sensors And Connectors

-- Remove the connectors from the bracket, disconnect them and then free up the wires.

1 -For the Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter -G130-

4 -For the Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 -G108-

NOTE:

Ignore -2 and 3-.

-- Release the locking mechanism in direction of -arrows-, and free up the wires to disconnect and remove the connectors from one another and out of the bracket:

2 -For the Oxygen Sensor 2 after Catalytic Converter -G131-

1 -For the Heated Oxygen Sensor -G39-

NOTE:

The catalytic converter for the cylinder bank 1 (right) is on the left in the vehicle.

-- Remove the bolts -1- from the mounting for the catalytic converter.

NOTE:

Ignore -2-.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- from the cylinder bank 1 (right) and then remove the left catalytic converter from the vehicle.

NOTE:

The catalytic converter for the cylinder bank 2 (left) is on the right in the vehicle.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- from the mounting for the catalytic converter.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- from the cylinder bank 2 (left) and then remove the right catalytic converter from the vehicle.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -1- from the bracket for the hydraulic line.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the left transmission mount with the transmission support.

NOTE:

Lay a cloth underneath to catch any leaking ATF.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then remove the ATF line -1- from the transmission.

-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the :VAS6122  .

CAUTION:

Risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

  • Before handling the connector, always "discharge" the static electricity. Do this by touching a grounded object, for example vehicle ground, the vehicle or the hoist.
  • Do not touch connector terminals in the transmission connector with hands.

-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise -arrow- and disconnect the connector from the transmission.

-- Free up the wiring harness on the transmission.

Vehicles through MY 2013:

-- Loosen the clamp -2- and remove the coolant hose.

NOTE:

Ignore -1-.

Vehicles from MY 2014:

-- Loosen the hose clamp -arrow- and remove the coolant hose.

Continuation for All Vehicles:

-- Fold the heat shield boot -3- slightly upward.

-- Loosen the hose clamp -top arrow- to remove the bolts -1 and 2- and to remove the coolant hoses for the right coolant pipe from the transmission.

NOTE:

Ignore -bottom arrow-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -2- and remove the transmission mount from the transmission support.

-- Remove the left and right drive axle from the transmission flange shaft. Refer to Drive Axle, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission in direction of -arrow-.

-- Position the :T40272  onto the :T40263  .

-- Attach the crankshaft turning tool to the bolts on the vibration damper.

NOTE:

Ignore the notch on the :T40272  .

-- Counterhold the crankshaft to loosen the torque converter bolts using the :T40272  and the :T40263  .

NOTE:

When turning the crankshaft, only turn it in the direction of engine rotation -arrow-.

-- Remove the six torque converter bolts -arrow- by turning the crankshaft 60° further in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Equip the :VAS6131B  with the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set:VAS6131/10  and :VAS6131/12  , and :VAS6131/13-7  as follows:

NOTE:

The remaining mounting elements remain unchanged.

-- Secure the :VAS6131/13-7  to the engine in the threaded hole with a M10 x 65 bolt on the front to the right, as shown.

-- Tighten the :VAS6131/13-7  to 20 Nm on the scissor lift table.

-- Attach the mounting elements from the :VAS6131/10  and :VAS6131/12  on the left of the transmission, as shown.

-- Attach the mounting elements from the :VAS6131/10  and :VAS6131/12  on the right of the transmission support, as shown.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.

-- Tighten the mounting element base plates to 20 Nm on the :VAS6131B  .

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- from the starter.

-- Press the starter off the transmission and leave it in the installation position.

-- Remove the remaining bolts -3 through 11- that connect the engine to the transmission.

NOTE:

Ignore -A-.

-- Loosen the clamping screws -1- on the side of the :VAS6131B  and pull the rear table top with the transmission toward the rear in direction of -arrow-.
