Infotainment Progress

Infotainment systems have undergone rapid changes since their introduction. As the vehicle systems become interconnected, infotainment can provide new forms of information and assistance. External entertainment and information delivery have also become more accessible. Users now expect more from their vehicle infotainment systems.

Infotainment systems must interface between external information sources and data services, the vehicle system and vehicle passengers. Information must be accessed quickly using an intuitive interface, such as those used on smart phones.

Due to the rapid changing of infotainment systems, this SSP booklet can only capture the current snapshot. These systems are designed to evolve and continue to provide a best-in-class experience for the customer.

Volkswagen began using the term infotainment with the Phaeton. The purpose of this interface was to control various multimedia functions such as the radio and navigation system, phone connection or vehicle data from a display unit.

Infotainment is now available in many vehicles. For Volkswagen, infotainment systems are used on all platforms.

The Phaeton Infotainment System

The vehicle electronics have undergone huge advances, particularly in the area of assistance and information systems. This has also had an impact on the amount of CAN-Bus networking. Information from many systems are used to provide new assistance systems to the customer.

The driver now has access to more information and comfort than ever before. Vehicle settings can be configured with driving mode selections. External communication can be made using navigation and phone systems.

An intuitive interface is necessary for seamless driver operation. A touchscreen interface with logical menu choices can be accessed and managed by the driver.
