Fuel Delivery Unit/Fuel Level Sensor, Removing And Installing: Removing
There is a risk of fire due to leaking fuel.
- The fuel tank may be a maximum of 3 /4 full. This ensures the fuel level is below the fuel delivery unit flange.
-- Follow all safety precautions. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
-- Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to PARKING/AUXILIARY HEATER AND FUEL SYSTEM GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
-- Move the front seats all the way forward.
-- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to Rear Seats .
-- Disconnect the ground cable from the battery terminal. Refer to Battery, Starter, Generator, Cruise ControlBattery, Starter, Generator, Cruise Control .
-- If required, drain the fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK, DRAINING .
-- Unclip the right locking flange cover -1- at the tabs in direction of -arrows- using the :3409 .
-- Unclip the grommet -1- downward out of the cover -2- .
-- Guide the cover -2- on the wiring harness -3- toward the rear.
The fuel line is under pressure.
Fuel poses a risk of injury to the eyes and skin.
Wear protective eyewear and protective clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Place a cleaning cloth around the connection point before loosening hose connections. Carefully open the connection point to release the pressure.
-- Release and disconnect the connectors -1 and 2- and fuel line -3- from the locking flange.
-- Open the locking ring using the :T10202 .
There is a risk of fuel leaking out from the filled fuel delivery unit.
- Lay cloths below to catch the leaking fuel.
-- Carefully lift the fuel delivery unit flange.
-- Pull the right sealing flange -2- slightly out of the fuel tank opening.
-- Remove the seal -1- at the fuel tank opening.
-- Release the connector in direction of -arrow- . Disconnect the connector -1- on the right locking flange.
-- Carefully pull the fuel delivery unit -1- with the Fuel Level Sensor -G- -2- out of the fuel tank opening by turning and tipping it appropriately.
Be careful not to bend the floater arm on the fuel level sensor when removing the fuel delivery unit.
If the delivery unit is being replaced, the old delivery unit must be emptied before disposing of it.
Follow all waste disposal regulations.
Check the fuel tank for contamination.
-- Carefully remove the fuel lines from the fuel tank opening.
-- Disconnect the suction jet line -1- and the delivery line -2- by pressing the release on the connecting piece.
