Selector Lever Cable, Checking And Adjusting, Vehicles From 06/2012
Short Description
The selector lever cable must be disconnected from the transmission in order to check it for ease of movement. Lay the removed end down so that it does not touch anything.
Then selector lever is moved and installed again on the transmission.
Do not lubricate the cable connections.
Adjust the selector lever after that.
Always Adjust the Selector Lever Cable If:
- The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.
- The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.
- Parts of subframe mount were removed and installed.
- The selector mechanism was removed and installed.
- Engine/transmission positions changes, for example, were installed free of tension.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Pry Lever: 80-200
Checking
-- Move the selector lever into >>P<<.
-- Remove the noise insulation under the engine and transmission. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- Remove components of the exhaust system if necessary. Refer to [For engine(s) CGFA] Exhaust System, Emission Controls , [For engine(s) CNRB] Exhaust System, Emission Controls or [For engine(s) CGRA] Exhaust System, Emission Controls .
-- Disconnect the selector lever cable at the ball head -1- from the selector lever using the : 80-200 .
Ignore items -2 and 3-.
-- Move the selector lever from >>P<< to >>S<< and back to >>P<< several times.
- The selector lever must move easily.
-- Then adjust the selector lever.
Adjusting
-- Move the selector lever into "P".
Switch the Selector Lever on the Transmission Toward the Right Into "P" Position.
Make sure the transmission is in "P" (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn the front wheels.
The transmission is also in "P" if the vehicle does not move with wheels spinning freely.
-- Carefully press the cable with adjusting screw -arrow- loosened onto the lever/selector shaft. Do not bend the lever/selector shaft when doing this. Otherwise shifting can no longer be adjusted precisely.
-- Tap the handle on the selector lever back and forth gently but do not move it out of "P" under any circumstances.
-- Tighten adjustment screw -arrow- to 12 Nm.
This ends the adjustment.
