ATF Level, Checking

Short Description 

The ATF level is specified by a >>permanently<< installed overflow tube in the oil pan.

Check the ATF level when the fluid is at a specific temperature and with the engine running. The ATF temperature is read out with the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. To test the ATF level, remove the plug in the oil pan once the test temperature has been reached.

CAUTION:

An incorrect ATF stand affects the function of the transmission.

Test Requirements

-- Connect the >>tester<< and move through selections until it is ready for operation. Refer to >>Tester<<, CONNECTING .

-- Press the >>right<< Guided Functions  .

-- Select the vehicle, the transmission and Check ATF level  .

-- Press the →  button.

-- Depress the brake.

-- Start the engine.

-- Switch the selector lever to each position for 2 seconds. Then move the selector lever into "P".

-- Raise the vehicle.

-- Place the drip tray under the transmission.

At the Test Temperature of 35 °C (95 °F).

-- Remove the plug -1- in the ATF pan for checking the ATF level.

-- Always replace the plug seal -arrow-.

NOTE:

Even if the level of transmission fluid is too low, first a small amount of transmission fluid will flow out of the overflow tubes, because it fills during operation.

Drain any ATF still in the overflow pipe.

If ATF Continues to Leak Out of Hole

ATF does not need to be topped off.

-- Fasten ATF check plug with new seal to 16 Nm. The ATF level test is now completed.

If No Oil Drips Out of Hole

-- Fill the ATF. Refer to ATF, FILLING .
