Selector Lever Cable, Checking And Adjusting, Vehicles Through 05/2012
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Pry Lever: 80-200
- Socket And Key: T40031
Checking
-- Move the selector lever into "P".
-- Remove the noise insulation to the bottom of the transmission.
-- Disconnect the selector lever cable at the ball head -1- from the selector lever using the : 80-200 .
Ignore items -2 and 3-.
-- Move the selector lever from "P" to "S".
- Shift mechanism and selector lever cable must have freedom of movement during this, if necessary, replace selector lever cable or service shift mechanism.
-- Move the selector lever into "P".
-- Position the lever/selector shaft on the transmission in the "P" position. The detent lever must engage in the parking lock gear; both front wheels are blocked (cannot be jointly turned in one direction).
- It should be possible to push the selector lever cable onto the lever/selector lever. Adjust the selector lever cable if necessary.
-- Carefully press the selector lever cable onto the lever/selector shaft. Do not bend the lever/selector shaft when doing this. Otherwise shifting can no longer be adjusted precisely.
Adjusting
- The selector lever cable is disconnected from the lever/selector shaft.
-- Unclip the shift cover from the trim.
-- Move the selector lever into "S".
-- Disconnect the connector from the shift cover and pull the boot over the handle.
-- Position the lever/selector shaft on the transmission in the "S" position. Move the lever/selector shaft all the way forward.
-- Loosen clamping screw -1- through the opening in the selector mechanism -arrow- with the : T40031 approximately 1 revolution.
The clamping screw is only accessible when the selector lever is in "S".
Only loosen the clamping screw - do not remove it.
-- Carefully press the selector lever cable -1- onto the lever/selector shaft. Do not bend the lever/selector shaft when doing this. Otherwise shifting can no longer be adjusted precisely.
Ignore items -2 and 3-.
-- Carefully move the selector lever slightly forward and backward without shifting to a different selector lever position.
-- Tighten the clamping screw of the selector lever cable in this position using the : T40031 to 10 Nm.
Do not move the selector lever forward or backward while tightening the clamping screw otherwise the adjustment will be incorrect.
Install in reverse order of removal.
