ATF, Draining And Filling
Brief Description
Read the fluid temperature first. If it is higher than 50 °C (122 °F), then let the transmission cool down.
Turn off the engine, remove the overflow pipe and let the ATF drain. Then reinstall the overflow pipe and >>overfill<< the transmission with fluid.
Start the engine, move the selector lever through all the gears and let the excess ATF drain out.
Then check the ATF level and add.
Requirements
- The engine is off.
- The vehicle is level and all hoist mounts are the same height.
- Noise insulation is removed if necessary
- Selector lever is in "P"
- The Vehicle Diagnostic Tester is connected.
- To begin working, the fluid temperature should not be higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
Let the transmission cool down if the fluid temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
Do not start the engine if there is no transmission fluid in the transmission.
ATF, Draining
-- Place the : SMN372500 under the transmission.
-- Remove the ATF check plug -1- in the ATF pan.
-- Remove the overflow pipe -C-.
-- Let the ATF drain.
-- Remove the ATF pan and let any remaining ATF drain out. Refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
It is necessary to remove the ATF pan from the transmission in order to change the ATF. This means approximately 6 liters of ATF will be changed.
Only approximately 3.5 liters of ATF will drain out if the ATF is drained via the removed overflow pipe -C- only.
-- Clean and install the ATF pan. Refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the overflow pipe -C- ; tightening specification: 2 Nm
ATF, Filling
-- Install the : VAS6262/2 hand-tight.
-- Shake the fluid containers before opening.
-- Read the information regarding the bleed pipe before attaching the : VAS6262A to the fluid container. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING AND FILLING - Shorten the bleed pipe on the: VAS6262A as follows: .
Only 3.5 to 4 liters of ATF must be added if the ATF pan was not removed. This is not enough for an ATF change.
-- Add six liters of ATF. Refer to Parts Information.
-- Tighten the ATF check plug -A- and new gasket -B- hand-tight.
-- Start the engine and let it run in idle.
-- With engine idling depress the brake pedal and shift the selector lever through all the selector lever positions leaving the selector lever at least 10 seconds in each position.
-- Move the selector lever into "N".
-- Increase the RPM to 2000 and hold it there for at least 60 seconds.
-- Move the selector lever into "P" position.
-- Check the ATF level and add ATF if necessary. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING AND FILLING .
