11.4.3 Distance Regulation Control Module - J428-, Removing And Installing
The Distance Regulation Control Module - J428- and/or Distance Regulation Control Module 2 - J850- are installed at the front of the vehicle next to the fog lamps.
The Distance Regulation Control Module - J428- cannot be disassembled and contains the Adaptive Cruise Control Sensor - G550-.
Distance Regulation Control Module 2 - J850- cannot be disassembled and contains the Adaptive Cruise Control Sensor 2.
NOTE:
Removing and installing the Distance Regulation Control Module - J428- is the same as for Distance Regulation Control Module 2 - J850- and is described for one control module only.
- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.
- Remove the front bumper cover. Refer to Body Exterior (Front Bumper Cover; Front Bumper Cover).
- Release and disconnect the connector -2-.
- Remove the nut -1- (20 Nm) and both bolts -4- (20 Nm) and then remove the Distance Regulation Control Module - J428- -3- together with the bracket.
Installing:
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) sensors must be calibrated after:
- Removing, installing or replacing a Distance Regulation Control Module - J428-,
- Every removal and installation, and replacement of assembly carrier,
- If there is a suspicion of forceful impact on these two parts, an accident during driving or similar.

- Adapt the ACC when first using or replacing the Distance Regulation Control Module - J428- or Distance Regulation Control Module 2 - J850-. Refer to 11.6 Automatic Distance Regulation, Initializing
NOTE:
- The stud bolts in the bracket are pre-set. Correct the setting only if necessary.
- Replace the clip if the adjusting screw was removed. Refer to 11.4.4 Remove the Clip On the Distance Regulation Control Module - J428- "Master", Distance Regulation Control Module 2 - J850- "Slave"
