Selector Mechanism, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- The selector relay lever is removed.
- Lubricate cable retainer locating bore
- The cable retainer may only be installed at the bushing in direction of -arrow-.
- The cable retainer must move freely on the selector relay lever.
- The cable retainer must be behind the tab.
- Make sure it engages securely.
-- Align the shift housing so that is it parallel to the body.
- The distance on both sides to the body must be equal.
-- Tighten the nuts on the gearshift housing -arrows-.
-- Route the cables -1- from the gearshift mechanism -2- to the transmission as follows:
- The cables must run parallel to each other and must not cross each other.
- The cables must be routed inside the depression in the heat shield -3-.
The heat shield from above is shown in the magnified view.
A clip -A- holds the cables and heat shield to each other in place.
-- Secure the cable bracket on the transmission -arrows-.
These holes have different diameters.
Allocation of Cable Retainers. Refer to Cable Retainer Allocation
- Lubricate the following areas very carefully when installing.
- Relay lever shaft -A- -arrows-.
- Gearshift lever glide track -B-, fits into the selector relay lever.
- Cable retainer locating bore.
- The relay lever and gearshift lever in the illustration may differ from the Original Part.
-- Apply a small amount of grease on the pins on the transmission gearshift lever -3- and the selector relay lever -4-.
-- Replace the lock washer -1- for the cable retainer -2- after removal.
-- Secure the shift cable with a lock washer -1-.
-- Install the relay lever -4- and the cable retainer together. Refer to the illustration below.
-- Install the relay lever and cable retainer -arrow 2- all the way into the gearshift cover.
-- Install the clip -arrow 1- and make sure it is locked into place.
-- Install the selector cable in the cable retainer.
-- Mount the Interior Monitoring Sensor -G273- (if equipped) on the nuts. Refer to ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM .
-- Install the center console bracket and the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .
-- Install the boot with the selector knob and, if necessary, the noise insulation. Refer to GEARSHIFT KNOB, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the heat shield -1- under the selector mechanism and attach with the clamping screws -2 and 3-.
-- Attach the underbody trim panel to the body -arrows-. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL .
-- Reconnect exhaust system making sure it is not under stress. Refer to EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA) , or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS (CBPA, CKJA) , or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS (CVCA, CUUA, CUUB, DELA, DEBA, DEJA & DGMA) , or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS (CNLA, CRJA) .
-- Install the tunnel brace under the exhaust system. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL .
-- Adjust the gearshift mechanism. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, ADJUSTING .
-- If removed install the complete air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER (CNLA & CRJA) , or AIR FILTER (CZCA, CZDA & CZTA) , or AIR FILTER (CBPA & CKJA) , or AIR FILTER (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA & CPRA) .
-- Complete the steps after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
