Engine Control Module -J623- WITH PROTECTIVE HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Hot Air Gun from Wiring Harness Repair Set: VAS1978B .
- Attachment nozzle from Wiring Harness Repair Set: VAS1978B .
- Locking pliers
To replace the Engine Control Module (ECM), perform guided fault function "replace engine control module" Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
Removing
-- Turn off the ignition.
-- Remove the wiper arms. Refer to WIPER ARMS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER .
-- Cover the engine compartment in the area near the ECM to prevent scratching the paint.
-- Remove the bolts and the ECM.
Thread of shear bolts is equipped with locking compound. By heating the shear bolts using a hot air gun, inhibition effect of the locking compound is lowered.
Make sure the parts cannot get burned.
By heating the shear bolts, parts of the protective housing are heated intensely. Wear safety gloves to prevent injuries.
-- Warm the shear bolt -arrows- with a hot air gun.
-- Loosen the bolt -1- with locking pliers.
-- Bend the edges of the housing down and remove the bolts.
Installing:
-- Replace the protective housing.
-- Install a new protective housing with new shear bolts.
-- Tighten the shear bolts evenly until the bolt head shears off.
-- Install the ECM into the plenum chamber.
-- Install the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER .
-- Install the wiper arms. Refer to WIPER ARMS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
