Bevel Box: Removing
Proceed as follows when removing the bevel box:
Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION OVERVIEW .
To achieve more accessibility in vehicles with auxiliary heating, remove auxiliary heater coolant hoses -1- and -2- from engine and vehicle body. While doing this do not open the hoses in the system. Refer to the appropriate Service Information
Remove the heat shield above the right drive axle -arrows-.
Remove the right drive axle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Mark the position of the driveshaft with the flexible disk with respect to the bevel gear flange with paint.
Remove the driveshaft from the bevel box -arrows-.
Push the front driveshaft tube all the way back.
Place a cloth on the subframe to prevent damaging the paint on the driveshaft.
Lay the driveshaft on the subframe.
Remove the bracket from the exhaust system -arrows- and the subframe.
Remove the pendulum support from the transmission, bolts -1- and -2-.
Push the engine/transmission to the front end, while doing so support with the pendulum support as shown.
Use the bolt -A- = M10 x 35 collar bolt
Remove the bolts for the right flange shaft -arrow- using the socket. Insert two bolts in the flange and counterhold the flange shaft with the pry lever.
Ignore bolt -A-.
Remove the bolt -1- and -2- for the transmission support on the engine from and transmission.
The illustration of the bolt head can vary from the original.
Remove the transmission support.
Remove the bolts -arrows- for the bevel box on the upper part of the transmission.
Remove the bolts -arrows- for the bevel box on the lower part of the transmission.
Carefully push the bevel box off the transmission and remove it.
