Use only gold-plated terminals when servicing any component with gold-plated electrical harness connector terminals.
For wiring diagrams, component locations, and connector views, Refer to the applicable wiring diagram.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Multimeter.
- Wiring diagram.
Test requirements
- the Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623- fuses OK.
- Battery voltage at least 12.5 volts.
- All electrical consumers such as, lights and rear window defroster, switched off.
- Vehicles with automatic transmission, shift selector lever into position "P" or "N".
- A/C switched off.
- Ground connections between engine/transmission/chassis OK.
- Throttle valve must not be damaged or dirty.
- Coolant Temperature at least 80° C.
Function
Control Valve operation occurs via an electric motor Control Flap Adjustment Motor -V380-, a sensor Control Valve Position Sensor -G584-, which is part of the Control Valve Control Module -J808- assembly.
the Control Valve Control Module -J808- is serviced as a unit.
Test procedure
Always set the parking brake first. This is done by turning the ignition on and lift the parking brake switch located on the center console. An amber light on the switch indicates the parking brake is activated. When instructed to "Turn the ignition On" during diagnostic testing, do not apply the brake pedal. Doing so will activate the Hybrid system. To keep the Hybrid system from arming, turn the ignition key to the right until it stops and release the key, keeping your foot OFF of the brake pedal. the ignition turns off in the same manner. Remove the key from the ignition switch after the ignition is turned off.
-- Perform a preliminary check to verify the customers complaint. Refer to PRELIMINARY CHECK
Start diagnosis
-- Remove the engine cover.
-- Disconnect the Control Valve Control Module -J808- electrical harness connector.
Checking resistance
-- Using a multimeter, check the Control Valve Control Module -J808- electrical harness terminal 3 to clean ground for resistance.
Specified value: 24 Ω +/- 3 Ohms
-- Using a multimeter, check the Control Valve Control Module -J808- electrical harness terminal 4 to clean ground for resistance.
-- Using a multimeter, check the Control Valve Control Module -J808- electrical harness terminal 5 to clean ground for resistance.
Specified value: 15.8 Ω +/- 2 Ohms
If any of the specified values were not obtained:
-- Proceed to "Checking wiring" steps.
If the specified values were obtained:
Checking voltage supply and wiring
-- Switch the ignition On.
-- Using a multimeter, check the Control Valve Control Module -J808- electrical harness connector terminal 1 to ground for voltage.
Specified value: near 5.0 V
-- Using a multimeter, check the Control Valve Control Module -J808- electrical harness connector terminal 2 to ground for voltage.
Specified value: near 5.0 V
-- Switch the ignition Off.
If the specified values were obtained:
-- Replace the Control Valve Control Module -J808-. Refer to the Service Information.
If the specified values were Not obtained:
Checking wiring
-- Remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) -J623-. Refer to the Service Information.
-- Using a multimeter, check the Control Valve Control Module -J808- at electrical harness connector terminals to the Engine Control Module (ECM) -J623- electrical harness connector terminals for resistance. Refer to the wiring diagram.
| Control Valve Control Module -J808- electrical harness connector terminals: | Engine Control Module (ECM) -J623- electrical T60 connector terminals: |
|---|---|
| 1 | 26 |
| 2 | 38 |
| 3 | 14 |
| 4 | 49 |
| 5 | 35 |
Specified value: 1.5 Ω max.
If the specification is not obtained:
-- Check the wiring for a short circuit, high resistance or an open circuit.
-- If necessary, repair the faulty wiring connection.
-- Check the electrical harness connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals.
If no malfunction is detected in the wiring and if the terminal 1, 2 voltage supply or terminal 3, 4 or 5 resistance check was Not OK:
-- Replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) -J623-. Refer to appropriate Service Information.
Final procedures
After the repair work, the following work steps must be performed in the following sequence:
- Check the DTC memory. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 03 - READ DTC MEMORY .
- If necessary, erase the DTC memory. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 04 - ERASE DTC MEMORY .
- If the DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code. Refer to READINESS CODE .
