Used Balance Shaft Module, Installing: Procedure
If the intermediate sprocket bolt was loosened, the drive pinion on the crankshaft was replaced or the crankshaft was removed, a new intermediate sprocket with coating must be installed and the hub and axial bearing disc must be replaced. Refer to OIL PAN, PUMP AND BALANCE SHAFT MODULE OVERVIEW -item 15- including the bolt -item 14- and axial bearing disc. Otherwise the backlash will be incorrect. For the installation procedure, refer to NEW BALANCE SHAFT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLING .
If a used balance shaft module is being installed, but neither the spur gear on the crankshaft nor the crankshaft were replaced, then proceed as follows. Do not loosen the intermediate sprocket under any circumstances.
Replace the bolts which have been tightened to the specified torque.
-- Lock the balance shaft in place using the Locking ToolT10255. Rotate the balance shaft if necessary.
- The Locking ToolT10255 pins must engage in the groove on the balance shaft.
-- Install the alignment bushings for centering the balance shaft module on the cylinder block if they are missing.
-- Mount the balance shaft module on the cylinder block.
- The intermediate shaft must engage in the spur gear on the crankshaft when the balance shaft is secured in place.
- The intermediate sprocket must have a slight angular clearance.
-- Tighten the bolts for the balance shaft module as follows:
| Step | Bolts | Tightening Specifications |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | -1 through 8- | Hand tighten in sequence. |
| 2. | -1 through 8- | Tighten in sequence to 6 Nm. |
| 3. | -1 through 4- | Tighten to 20 Nm. |
| 4. | -5- | Tighten to 13 Nm. |
| 5. | -6- | Tighten to 20 Nm. |
| 6. | -7- | Tighten to 13 Nm. |
| 7. | -8- | Tighten to 20 Nm. |
| 8. | -1 through 8- | Tighten an additional 90° (1/4) turn in sequence using a ratchet. |
| Step | Bolts | Tightening Specifications |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | -1 through 6- | Hand tighten in sequence. |
| 2. | -1 through 6- | Tighten in sequence to 6 Nm. |
| 3. | -1 through 4- | Tighten to 20 Nm. |
| 4. | -5 and 6- | Tighten to 13 Nm. |
| 5. | -1 through 6- | Tighten an additional 90° (1/4) turn in sequence using a ratchet. |
-- Remove the Crankshaft StopT10050.
Further installation is performed in reverse order. Note the following:
-- Install the oil pan. Refer to OIL PAN .
-- Install the vibration damper. Refer to RIBBED BELT AND TENSIONER OVERVIEW .
