Shift Mechanism, Adjusting: Notes
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Connecting Pin T10027 A
The following points are essential to guarantee correct shift mechanism adjustment:
The shift mechanism operating and transfer elements must work properly.
The shift mechanism must move freely.
The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must also be in proper working condition.
- Transmission is in neutral.
-- Remove the air filter housing if the locking pin -A- and the lock mechanisms for the shift and selector cables are not accessible. Refer to one of the following:
Diesel engines, refer to [For engine(s) CJAA] Removal and Installation .
Gas engines, refer to [For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation .
-- Pull the locking mechanisms on the cable retainers for the shift and selector cables all the way forward in the -direction of arrow 1- and then lock them to the left in the -direction of arrow 2-.
Hold the gear shift unit shaft secure as follows:
-- Push the gear shift unit shaft in the -direction of arrow 1-.
-- While pressing down the shaft, rotate the locking pin -A- upward in the -direction of arrow 3- and simultaneously press it in, in the -direction of arrow 2- until it engages in the gear shift unit shaft.
-- Remove the shift knob, boot and noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:
Eos, GTI from 2006 through 2009 and Golf/GTI from 2010, refer to SHIFT KNOB, BOOT AND NOISE INSULATION .
Hold the shift lever secure as follows:
-- Move the shift lever into the neutral position.
-- Install the connecting pin T10027 A through the hole -A- and into the hole -B-.
-- Turn the locking mechanisms on the shift and selector cable retainers all the way to the right in the -direction of arrow 1-.
The spring will push the locking mechanisms into the starting position in the -direction of arrow 2-.
-- Turn the locking pin -A- back into the starting position -arrow 2-.
The locking pin -A- must get pushed out of the transmission in the -direction of arrow 1-.
The locking pin -A- must be pushed all the way out of the transmission, in the -direction of arrow 1- and point downward, in the -direction of arrow 2-.
-- Pull the connecting pin T10027 A out of the holes -A and B-.
-- Remove the shift know, boot and noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:
Eos, GTI from 2006 through 2009 and Golf/GTI from 2010, refer to SHIFT KNOB, BOOT AND NOISE INSULATION .
-- Check the gear shift unit for ease of movement.
-- If removed, install the air filter housing. Refer to one of the following:
Diesel engines, refer to [For engine(s) CJAA] Removal and Installation .
Gas engines, refer to [For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation .
