Steering Column Intermediate Shaft: Installing
-- Match intermediate shaft extension (2) to steering gear shaft (3), then slide extension onto shaft.
-- Install pinch bolt (1) securing intermediate shaft extension (2) to steering gear shaft (3). Tighten pinch bolt to 42 Nm (31 ft lbs).
-- Lower vehicle.
-- Place shaft seal and cover (2) over mounting studs on floor pan and securely install fasteners. Make sure cover extends down over top of steering gear housing.
-- Verify the front wheels of vehicle are in the straight-ahead position.
-- Collapse the intermediate shaft (2). Center it over the shaft extension (3), lining up the ends, then slide the intermediate shaft onto the shaft extension.
-- Install the intermediate shaft coupling bolt (1). Tighten the bolt to 42 Nm (31 ft lbs).
-- Reposition the floor carpet in place.
-- Remove steering wheel holder.
-- Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of steering.
