ABS Control Module -J104- /ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-: Removing

Component location:

The ABS Control Module -J104- is attached to the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- and is located inside the engine compartment on the right side.

  1. ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- with ABS Control Module -J104-
  2. Brake booster with tandem brake master cylinder

Risk of destroying the brake lines by bending.

Never forcefully bend the brake lines in the hydraulic unit area.

-- Retrieve and note the coding from the ABS Control Module -J104- using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Take note of the radio code for vehicles with a coded radio. Ask if necessary.

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to [For engine(s) CPRA, PKA] Removal and Installation[For transmission(s) 0A4, 9G] [For engine(s) CBTA, BUA] Removal and Installation[For transmission(s) 02E] [For engine(s) CDVB] Removal and Installation[For transmission(s) 0A4, 2E, 2Q] [For engine(s) CKRA] Removal and Installation[For engine(s) CVCA] Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4, 2E, 9G, 2Q] [For engine(s) CVCA, DVB, PRA, BTA, PKA, KRA, BUA] Removal and Installation .

-- Open the clamps -4-.

-- Remove the air guide hose -1-. Refer to [For engine(s) CPRA, PKA] Description and Operation[For transmission(s) 0A4, 9G] [For engine(s) CBTA, BUA] Description and Operation[For transmission(s) 02E] [For engine(s) CDVB] Description and Operation .

-- Remove the screw -arrow- for the air guide pipe -2-.

-- Remove the air guide pipe -2-.

-- Remove the intake hose -3- between the air guide pipe and the turbocharger.

-- Seal the turbocharger with the Engine Bung Set VAS6122.

-- If equipped, remove the nut -3-.

-- Unclip the heat shield -1- on the bulkhead -arrow-.

-- Remove the heat shield -1-.

-- Disconnect and remove the connector from the ABS Control Module -J104- in direction of -arrow-.

-- Insert the Brake Pedal Actuator VAG1869/2.

-- Remove the caps from the bleeder valves on the left side.

-- Attach the bleeder bottle bleed hose -1- to the left front brake caliper bleed valve.

Use suitable bleed hose. It must fit tightly on bleeder valve so that no air can get into brake system.

-- Open the bleeder valve.

-- Attach the bleeder bottle bleed hose -1- to the left rear brake caliper bleed valve.

-- Open the bleeder valve.

-- Push the brake pedal at least 60 mm using the Brake Pedal Actuator VAG1869/2.

-- Close the left front and left rear bleeder valves.

Do not remove the Brake Pedal Actuator VAG1869/2.

-- Place a lint-free cloth under the ABS Control Module -J104- and the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-.

NOTE:

Make sure no brake fluid gets on the contact surfaces.

-- First label both brake lines from the brake master cylinder -A and B-.

-- Remove the brake lines -A and B- from the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-.

-- Seal the brake lines and threaded holes immediately using Plugs1H0 698 311 A.

-- Label brake lines -1 through 4- and then remove them.

-- Seal the brake lines and threaded holes immediately using Plugs1H0 698 311 A.

-- Remove the hex fitting bolt from the bracket -arrow-.

-- Remove the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- with the ABS Control Module -J104- and the bracket sideways in direction of -arrow- from the rubber bushings on the console.

-- Turn the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- with the ABS Control Module -J104- upside down.

-- Unscrew and remove the bracket -Item  15 - from the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- inside the engine compartment.

-- Remove the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- with the ABS Control Module -J104-.
