Selector Mechanism: Removing

-- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.

-- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE AND COVER .

-- Remove the ashtray and center console cover. Refer to "Center Console" in Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the selector mechanism.

-- Remove the engine cover with air filter. Refer to [For engine(s) CPRA,CPKA] Removal and Installation[For engine(s) CBTA,CBUA] Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the cable in direction of -arrows 1- and then remove it from the cable bracket in direction of -arrow 2-.

NOTE:

Do not use pliers because the tabs on the cable bracket could break off.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

-- Pry the cable -1- off the selector lever -3-, for example, using a wrench -2-.

2.5L Engine

-- Disconnect the selector lever cable -1- from the bracket -arrow- on the transmission.

1.8L Engine

-- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the bracket -arrow- on the ATF cooler.

Continuation for All 

-- Lift the vehicle.

-- Remove the front and rear tunnel braces from the body. Refer to "Underbody Panel" in Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the exhaust pipe with catalytic converter. Refer to [For engine(s) CBTA,CBUA] Removal and Installation[For engine(s) CVCA] Removal and Installation[For engine(s) CPRA,CPKA] Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the center and rear mufflers from the retaining straps and secure them to the body with wire.

-- Remove the center tunnel heat shield under the selector mechanism.

NOTE:

A second technician is required under the vehicle to remove the selector mechanism.

Remove the bracket with the access/start authorization system antenna 1 in vehicle interior -R138-, if equipped from the front stud bolts on the selector mechanism.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- in the vehicle interior.

-- Remove the selector mechanism with the selector lever cable and gearshift housing downward.

NOTE:

The selector mechanism can also be removed without having to remove the gearshift housing.

To do this, remove the 4 screws.

Remove the selector mechanism with the selector lever cable from inside the passenger compartment in the direction of -arrow-.

The selector mechanism is available only together with the selector housing and selector lever cable.
