Checking wiring

-- Using a Multimeter, Check the following Automatic Glow Time Control Module -J179- electrical harness connector terminals for resistance, Refer to applicable wiring diagram for fuse location and number.

Automatic Glow Time Control Module -J179- electrical harness connector terminals Measure to:
6 Fuse, Refer to applicable wiring diagram for fuse location and number.
7 Engine Ground
11 Fuse, Refer to applicable wiring diagram for fuse location and number.

Specified value: 1.5 Ω Max.

If the specified value was Not obtained:

-- Check the wiring connection for an open circuit, short circuit to Battery positive or Ground

-- Check the wiring connection for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals.

-- If necessary, repair the faulty wiring connection and replace any open fuses.

-- Go to Final procedures

If the specified value was obtained:

-- Go to Glow Plugs, Checking .

-- Using a Multimeter, Check the following Automatic Glow Time Control Module -J179- glow plug output voltage at T14 electrical harness connector terminals for Voltage, Refer to applicable wiring diagram for fuse location and number.

Ignition switched ON.

T14 electrical harness connector terminal Measure to:
8 for Glow Plug 1 -Q10- ground
7 for Glow Plug 2 -Q11- ground
6 for Glow Plug 3 -Q12- ground
5 for Glow Plug 4 -Q13- ground

Specified value: About Battery Voltage

-- Switch the ignition Off.

If the specification was not obtained:

-- Check the glow plug or circuit for a short to voltage, open circuit or high resistance.

-- Replace the Automatic Glow Time Control Module -J179-.

If the specified value was obtained:

-- Check the wires for a short circuit to each other, a short to battery voltage, and a short to ground.

-- Check the electrical harness connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals.

-- Repair as necessary.

-- Go to Final procedures

-- Check the electrical harness connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals.

-- Repair as necessary.

Final procedures

After repair work, the following work steps must be performed in the following sequence:

  1. Check the DTC memory. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 03 - READ DTC MEMORY .
  2. If necessary, erase the DTC memory. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 04 - ERASE DTC MEMORY .
  3. If the DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code. Refer to READINESS CODE .
