Secondary Air Injection Pump Relay, Checking: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Test requirements

Test Procedure

-- Perform a preliminary check to verify the customers complaint. Refer to PRELIMINARY CHECK .

-- Remove the Secondary Air Injection Pump Relay --J299--.

NOTE:

The engine MUST be cold (room temperature) in order for the ECM to command the air pump relay ON. The pump runs for approximately 70 seconds. Once the engine has been started and gone into closed loop, the ECM will not command the pump to run again for approx 6-8 hrs of Off time. Due to potential damage to the catalyst, the generic scan tool has no provision for SAI relay control.

-- Using a jumper wire, connect Secondary Air Injection Pump Relay --J299-- socket terminal 3/30 to socket terminal 5/87.

-- Switch the ignition ON.

Specified value: The secondary Air Injection Pump Motor -V101- should be On and running.

-- Switch the ignition OFF.

-- Remove the Jumper wire.

-- Continue test according to the following table:

Indicated Test
