Selector Mechanism With Housing: Removing

-- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .

-- Remove the center console. Refer to "Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim" in Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the selector mechanism.

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to Removal and Installation

-- Pry the cable -1- off the selector shaft lever -3- using a wrench -2-.

CAUTION:

The retainers on the selector lever cable break very easily. The complete selector mechanism with cable must be replaced if one of the tabs breaks off.

-- Squeeze the retainers together on the selector lever cable -arrows- and remove the selector lever cable from the cable bracket.

-- Do not bend the cable.

-- Remove the selector lever cable -1- from the bracket -arrow- on the transmission.

-- Lift the vehicle.

-- Remove the front and rear tunnel braces from the body. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Remove the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the center and rear mufflers from the retaining straps and tie them to the body with wire. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Remove the center tunnel underbody trim under the selector mechanism. Refer to Description and Operation .

with All Wheel Drive (AWD)

-- Remove the driveshaft. Refer to Removal and Installation .

NOTE:

A second technician is required under the vehicle to remove the selector mechanism.

Remove the bracket with the access/start system antenna 1 in vehicle interior, if equipped, from the front stud bolts on the selector mechanism.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- in the vehicle interior.

-- Remove the selector mechanism with the selector lever cable and selector housing downward.
