Selector Lever Cable, Checking And Adjusting

Short Description 

To check the selector lever cable for ease of movement, disconnect it from the transmission and position the disconnected end so it does not make contact anywhere.

The selector lever moves and the selector lever cable will be attached again.

After that, the selector lever cable must be adjusted.

Do not grease the selector lever cable connection!

Always adjust the selector lever cable if: 

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Checking 

-- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to Removal and Installation

-- Loosen the adjusting bolt -2- on the selector lever cable -1-.

-- Pry the cable -1- off the selector shaft lever -3- using a wrench -2-.

CAUTION:

The retainers on the selector lever cable break very easily. The complete selector mechanism with cable must be replaced if one of the tabs breaks off.

-- Squeeze the retainers together on the selector lever cable -arrows- and remove the selector lever cable from the cable bracket.

-- Do not bend the cable.

-- Move the selector lever from the "P" to "S" and back to "P" several times.

-- Reinstall the selector lever cable.

-- Adjust the selector lever cable.

Adjusting 

-- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.

-- Move the selector lever -3- on the transmission into the "P" position (push the lever to the rear).

WARNING:

Make sure the parking lock is engaged.

NOTE:

Make sure the transmission is in the "P" position (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn the front wheels.

-- Lightly tap the handle button forward and backward and make sure to the handle in the "P" position.

This places the selector lever cable core in its optimal position. 

-- Tighten the adjusting bolt -2- to 13 Nm.

This ends the adjustment. 

-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to Removal and Installation .
